What is the best way to learn to speak and read spanish?

I want to learn to speak and read spanish. I think that it would be a wonderful life skill to have! Has anyone used any language-learning tools that they especially liked? I have heard that the computer software "Rosetta Stone" is good- has anyone used it before? Did it work? Any other advice would be much appreciated. Thanks for your help!!

here's what helped me a lot: try switching the yahoo homepage to spanish and use altavista.babelfish (i think) for translating the words and phrases you don't recognize...this will work if you keep at it!! good luck, learning a second or even a third language is very good!!!

What's the most popular Spanish-language tech blog?

I'm learning Spanish, and I need something interesting to help me practice reading. I'd prefer to read a blog about software development or open-source programming, but any technology topics would be good. I'd prefer an individual's blog over an organization's, and I'd like a native Spanish-language blog over an extension of an English-language tech blog (such as Engadget EspaƱol). Thanks for your help!

Well I'm not sure about blogs, but I love this site: http://www.neoteo.com/ is an online magazine about science and technology with really interesting articles

Review of the 80/20 Spanish Verb System

One of the most difficult aspects of studying a different language is understanding all the nuances that accompany the way a word is employed. This is especially tough for those of us that speak English as their first language. we do not have to worry about whether the noun we are using is female or male - and when it concerns conjugating a verb we just slap “ing” or “ed” on it to let people know what tense we are employing regardless of how most of us are executing it.

That is not the case when it comes to other languages, particularly Spanish. In Spanish when you conjugate a verb it does far more than merely telling the individual you are speaking to the tense of the verb, immediate, past or future, it in addition conveys who’s executing it. So it is critical to understand how to conjugate verbs correctly, both regular and irregular verbs. For quite a few this can mean getting a Spanish verb guide and reading through it attempting to memorize the various verbs and the conjugation patterns they follow. You might also be a ‘flash card’ type of person.
