I was randomly pushing buttons on my mouse while reading and article online and the magnifier, which I never knew existed, turned on. It is like a rectangular magnifier around my cursor. How do I turn it on and off? I dont know how I turned it on, because my mouse only has two buttons (left and right) and a scroll wheel.
none of the first three answerers answers gives me the option to turn the magnifier off. please help!
I am having the same problem...it is annoying to the extreme :) I'll let you know if I figure out how to turn it off. ... OK I figured it out for my mouse. I did an internet search for in my case the wireless notebook optical mouse 4000 FEATURES. I was able to find a description of the magnifier and in my case a quick short click to the small little bump button on the left of my mouse turns the magnifier on and off. Holding it down and scrolling with it adjusts the size of the magnifier. Anyway if you don't have that particular mouse try doing a "features" search and seeing if that doesn't get you somewhere. Otherwise, I suppose restarting the computer might reset it. By the way the magnifier thing the others were talking about is not relative to this issue.

He wants something flat and rectangular to read books with. Something with really high magnifying power.
He has dozen eye doctors, ophthalmologists and optometrists. What disconcerts me is that he still wants to read after all those diagnoses and surgeries, meaning they didn't work. He is not interested in a magnifying glass, our living room is littered with them. Not Wal-Mart, because other than being the money sucking hell-pavilion of a flawed capitalism, I doubt its variety is better than those websites I've gone through. Thank you all the same though. You see, we've had a lot of trouble and I want to find him just what he wants: a flat, powerful, rectangular magnifier, with which he won't have to strain or fumble with or hold while reading. Thanks, thank you!, for your suggestions. They are still very welcome, just under these provisions.
A magnifying glass just screws up your eyes even more! he should go get a check up at an ophtalmologist (an eye doctor) and (s)he'll prescribe the right glasses for your grandfather to read with. Also, he should try to read for as much as possible during the day because electric light (especially neon light!) is very harmful for your eyes. If he uses the computer, the doctor will prescribe special lenses with a radiation filter to preotect the sight.

Actually, I thought that this was an intriguing question. I'd never heard of such a thing, but though it was a good idea.
So I googled "page magnifier" and came up with a bunch of hits.

Do they really work for someone losing their sight? My mom is having problems reading the smaller letters on her current 19" TV screen and want to know if a magnifier is the answer over buying a larger TV. Is the picture really clear and undistorted as the ads claim?
The magnifiers I have seen include an oil filled one way back in the 50s , these were for the little 9ins screens and were quite good for normal sighted people .
Later on they brought out Fresnel screens which in my opinion were more of a novelty than a practical solution, they do of course reduce brightness so probably would not help a great deal someone with poor eyesight. They do not cost a fortune however so best bet is get hold of one to try first .
Cheers Pete
