Reading Inventory Software

Hey all.

I'm starting my own internet-based business soon and I need to know if there's software that can self-update the inventory on my future website. Basically, I'm asking if there is an RMS (Retail Management System)software that also updates inventory/sales/customer contacts, etc. If such software database exists, please tell me how/where. Major kudos to the best answer, thank you very much for reading this! :-)

Which shopping cart or E-commerce software are you planning to use for internet sales? Magento, ZenCart and OSCommerce are the leading ones. They are all open source and can be downloaded free. There are add-on inventory modules available - you may have to pay for this. They also integrate with free open source CRM software for sales/customer contacts.

Not sure if this technology exists or how it functions. But, if I were to scan a barcode on a packing list, bill of lading or PO with whatever scanning equipment came with my inventory management software, could our scanner read that barcode and have data automatically uploaded into the appropriate fields in our software system?

In other words, I go to enter a New Asset. Scan barcode off packing list. Data fields Vendor, Quantity, and Cost are automatically uploaded to the appropriate fields.

If you're talking about a USB barcode scanner, then most of them will scan any barcode. The easiest thing I've found is to open a blank notepad document and scan a barcode, it will dump whatever it reads into notepad and you can see what information it gives you. From that, you may be able to find a way to split up the data and put in the appropriate fields. Your software vendor should also provide some support to help you do what you're looking to do, or at the very least, tell you if it is possible.

We run a retail outlet selling various merchandise that caters to bikers and the like... (clothing, apparel, trinkets, accessories, etc.) Our business has grown to where we are in need of a system that will allow us to create bar codes, a scanner to read the bar codes, a bar code labeler to create the bar codes and software inventory tracking that would be linked all together hopefully. We have only one computer and this system will be used only on this one PC. We need to know the best route for us while also in hopes that it doesn't break the bank in the process. Thank you.

Hi, you would need a Point-of-Sale (POS) System to accomplish everything smoothly. You are probably familiar with Quickbooks, the popular accounting software by Intuit. They also make a POS software called Intuit Quickbooks Point of Sale Pro. The first link below shows the software.

From my estimation, the software alone may run about $1000. The second link shows the hardware and the prices. They may also offer bundled packages to help save money.

I've read Quickbooks is super simple, but I'm concerned it's a dumb-downed piece of software that may be lacking in options.

I've read that Peachtree is complicated. I'm willing to learn accounting, but I have to get up and running in a couple months. I have no accounting background, and I don't have time to take courses.

I also need the standard business reports.

I'm experienced with software, so I'm not concerned about complex programs, however I am concerned about programs that assume I know accounting very well.

I assume the $100 to $250 "pro" versions are what I'm looking for, but there are so many products. I don't have inventory but I'm interested in any sort of useful pro-forma reports.

What is your best pick for me?

I own a small business solutions company, http://www.dezignsbyt.com/ and we use Quickbooks Pro 2006. Prior to starting my company I worked for three years as a billing specialist for a medical company where I worked with DacEasy Accounting Software, a DOS based accounting program that runs in the thousands.

Quickbooks is 1) easier to use and 2) thousands less expensive. We do use the double entry accounting method and bill mainly for services but also for products with no problems. The only feature I miss in Quickbooks is the account lookup feature which I am hoping they include in the next version.

Also from my experience a lot of our small business clients use Quickbooks as well for their accounting needs. Good luck!

can somebody suggest a free/pay downloadable software online available that can do the following:

1. Mindmap creation and sharing
2. Share email, documents and spreadsheet
3. Share URL
4. Share Photos
5. Share Music
6. Connect to all emails and reading it in only one application software
7. Will allow you to create folders of different files
8. Receive and send emails automatically
9. Probably offer a free webpage that can either be shared or not.
10. Can compile inventory.

Get Google Picasa http://www.sleekbytes.com/picasa-google. htm it does many things you didn't mention, like make an exe from the slideshow which I find very good for sharing my creations. Also, it's free.
