I just bought Corel Draw X4 from an academic site that didn't tell me that it was the version. I also just read that you can't receive updates or make money from it. Well, as a college student, I sometimes make money doing some graphic design...so what's the deal? Are there any other restrictions to the education version of software?
Thanks
don't ask, don't tell. they won't know. they mainly mean that it can't be used in a commercial environment, like a print or design shop.
you can get updates (fixes and patches), you just can't upgrade to a new version with it.

I have taken a look at the current Internet blocking and filtering software and read a variety of posts on protecting kids online. While I agree education and common sense is the best recipe, are there any major issues with the current solutions in the marketplace? Is there some big, glaring feature that software like NetNanny and CyberSitter don't address or do well?
1 - Children despise those programs
2 - Children can usually find a way to bypass those programs
I'm speaking about these programs in general, some programs may be more secure, etc.

I'm computer savvy to a point. I'm not a programmer nor am I design prone, however I am business minded and can think of hundreds of uses for an iPhone not already thought of, or facebook integration to open source programs. Great right? except I have no formal training or even general know how. I have a management job which takes up alot of my time (8-6:30 avg). Is there an online course or formal education in the NY/NJ area which is reputable enough to get me working with these types of programs?
These types are the open source, software development kits (i.e. iPhone/Touch), etc.
u need to have some technical skills. Otherwise your so-called 'ideas' would be rather termed as 'dreams' ... which all of us have.

Although I have some knowledge of html coding (self-tutored), I am by no means a programmer. But i would need to use some sort of efficient (and if possible user-friendly) application that will allow me to create and maintain questionnaires to design "continuing education" programs (pharmacists, physicians, nurses, ect), that would ideally be web-based.
After reading a little bit on the subject, I figured that learning some basic mySql or php (or both) might be useful (??) although this seems to be quite time consuming and I don't know which tool best suited for this project... I have no experience with mySql or php at the moment. The tools I have mastered (MS Excel, Dreamweaver, etc) are clearly insufficient here, unfortunately.
Heard of Joomla? This is a Content Management System and Web Application Framework using PHP as your web script. No need of programming. Please see link below.

He has an assistive device that allows him to press certain buttons to have the device play recorded questions and comments.
He hates it, because it rarely allows him to communicate his thoughts and needs beyond, "I'm hungry," or other basic statements.
I have read the information on computers with touch screens, and some of the software, and found that helpful. We have access to teachers, and special education software for children to learn basic reading and math skills, but he has not shown any interest in those, because they do not allow him to communicate.
His present method of communication is self-learned. If he sees an ad on TV, he searches magazines for the same product ad, and presents the ad and his notebook and pen to someone who can write. Once the product is listed to his satisfaction, he waits until one of us can take him to purchase the item.
Still, this is not conversation, and we would like to know if anyone else has a solution.
try the PECs program which is a communication progam ( you can i am sure make it your self. it has pics the can turn into sentences example

The Importance Of Forex Education «Forex Software Blog
A good, effective education can cut years off the learning curve. Learning to operate on one’s own can be a waste of time, confusing and even potentially dangerous to your personality and psychological state. Those people who conduct seminars and write books have experience in forex. As a rule these are the people who have spent 10-20 in the market. Like any other profession, as doctors and electronic engineers, these people often hold seminars for 2 weeks or offer certification courses that cost many thousands of dollars, for only 2 weeks of training! As high as $ 6,000 in fact! But it does enhance the career and professional productivity so as to face effective competition.
Learn to trade without a mentor is like learning to drive without an instructor!
