Reading Assessment Software

This device is meant to plug into your car in a port where your mechanic would plug in his $3000 diagnostic machine to figure out what is wrong with your car for you. I did some online customer reviews for it, and some people love it and others had a lot of problems with the software (after you plug the device into your car, you then upload the data into your computer and then get a reading as to what the problem is).

Seeing as I am still somewhat new to my area and don't yet have a mechanic (I've been lucky to not need one, yet! knock on wood), and seeing as I don't know incredibly much about cars beyond changing the oil filter (and what I hear on Car Talk, haha), I was thinking this would be a good investment at $100 for the device so that I can get an assessment of any problems before I was to bring the car into a shop.

Does anyone have any opinions on CarMD?

I have not used the CarMd but you will have to find out if it will plug in to the OBD ( on Board diagnostic) port on your car, there are three types of OBD and it all hast to do with the year of the vehicle and also if it is American or foreign made

The first type of OBD is between the years of 1988 to 1996 witch is what is known as OBD I. Then the second is from the latter part of 1996 to present and that is known as OBD II
then after next year they will have the third type out and that is what is known as the CAN program.

Not all code readers will work with all the different types of OBD that is why a mechanics code reader is so expensive because of all of the updates and the different cable that have to come with it in order to plug in to all the different vehicles that are out there.

The other thing that you need to make sure of is that can it be upgraded so if you buy a new vehicle in the next five years will it still be able to get the codes off of the new vehicle or will you have to buy a new program, if it is upgradeable than it may be worth the money but if it is not than I would go to a parts store or Wal mart and get a code reader from there it will do the same thing as the CarMd but all of your codes are in a book instead of a computer.

I bought the 9600GT today, and installed and everything. I'm not sure if it's installed properly. There's no icon in the system tray that indicates XFX or any graphic software, nor is there anything in the control panel list of installed programs, nor the start menu. However, in device manager, under display, it recognises NVIDIA 9600GT 512MB. Does that mean that it's working alright??? Since I'm using Vista Home Premium, the Windows Experience Index also reads 5.9 for graphics assessment. My motherboard is PCIe 1.0, whereas this card is 2.0, but I read that it's backward compatible, so don't think that could be an issue.

Yes I've got the Nvidia control Panel. Only thing is that before i was running an 8600GT by Xpertvision, and along with the Nvidia control panel, I would also have an xpertvision control panel from which I could control fan speed, core clock, memory clock etc etc. I haven't got an XFX equivalent with this one....so was just wondering whether that is normal, or whether there was a problem with the installation. . Thanks

just installed that card a few days ago myself...the only place i saw the card listed was in device manager too and i know its working...im running crysis maxed out pretty decently.

I have a amd athlon 2 x3 425 2.70 cpu and i have been looking at over clocking it and trying to get to 3.00 and maybe unlocking my 4th core cause i read that it could be done. Ive heard that some people have got theirs to 3.33 g safely i just want 3.00 and ill be good until i can get the money to get the quad core that i want here are my tower specs
