Im looking for a application so I can point it to a doc, pdf etc and in a natural speaking voice (not Stephen Hawkins) reads out the text. Ideally I would like it saving as a wav or MP3?

I have been trying to find one text-to-type software. Since I need to read quite a lot, I want to have some program that can read out to me in a natural speech and I can also control the way it does so, like controlling its volume, pitch, speed and the point to start reading etc. So, it will be very much appreciated if you could advise me on that matter. I have found some by searching on the net at www.softpedia.com/progFinder. But I am not sure which one is the most appropriate one for me.

My dad is using a software program called Natural Reader, where he highlights text and it reads it to him. His school puts his textbooks onto a cd in pdf format. One of the files he received the insertion point (cursor) is missing, and a crosshair type of cursor is showing up in place of the insertion point. It appears that it is recognizing the pages as pictures, and not text. How do we fix this so he can select the text?
