I had a corneal problem since I born, I'm not sure of the scientific name , and since my case is previously operated successfully elsewhere where I cannot get back to my original doctors (foreign country). currently I'm in different country, so I would like if someone can guess from experience my original illness, here is the details:
1-I born with it.
2-I had two siblings have the same problem, so we are 3 out of 4 siblings have the problem, we don't know of anyone in our family and near or far relatives except us who have that problem.
3-Probably astromal recessive case, my parents are near related.
4-During the illness time since I born, my eye looks blue from outside, the cornea part looks blue.
5-My vision got worse due to the cornea getting worse over time, so when I was up to 10 years old I can see the class board and read without help, after 11 years old I started to use strong magnifier to read, after 15 yrs old I can barely see , but I used stronger magnifier for reading.
6-I didn't feel pain, only after 15, becomes sensitive to light, or any tiny hit. but not continuously painful.
I searched on the net, I found Corneal Heridtary endothelial dystrophy type 2 (CHED2) that have closer syptoms to mine... but I'm not sure... I remember my parents were told it was a very rare illness.
I already had corneal transplants when I was 18.
* [Correcting in no. 3] - autosomal recessive disorder
It sounds like the typical corneal distrophies. There are two that I am leaning towards, but can not be certain without examining your eyes. These two are Fuchs Dystrophy and the other is Map dot fingerprint. I am more leaned on the Fuchs.

I've always been very near sighted and have a considerable stigmatism in both eyes. My first bifocals were at 25, but switched back since they no longer work as well for me. New dr. says it's nearsighted but also because the receptor cells (we all have rods and cones in our eyes to distinguish light/dark/color shapes) are spread too far apart. I'm corrected at 20/40, but closer to 20/50 now. Bye bye night driving!
He wasn't terribly helpful in what to do, other than get a hand held magnifier, so that I can keep up with my course work. Any tips/tricks or things to ask for so I can keep up with all this college work?? Reading a couple of hundred pages each night and working on this computer was a challenge last term; it's getting harder and harder to do this. So, what's a book loving girl to do??
I'm not sure you're looking at this 'right'. I may not be either as there are so many ways to work through this.
Basically, the way the lens thing works is, the more powerful the lens, the more it bends light. The formula where the Power of the lens or P is equal to 1/d where d is in meters helps.
If a lens is focused at a meter away, +1
half meter, +2
third of a meter, +3
quarter of a meter, +4
fifth of a meter, +5
bonk.... sorry, hit my head on the computer....
If you are "near sighted" then you are already focused closer than infinity or far away. If you are focused at a meter away, you are +1 too powerful and need to use a -1.00 to neutralize that power or move the focal point out to distance.
If you are a -2.00 myope you are focused +2.00 too powerful or a half meter away... etc etc etc.
When 'reading', one should try and get a lens that allows you to see at the distance you are doing the work. But if you are already near sighted, then you may not 'need' a lens. Just take off your glasses. But if you use your distance glasses, then read, you'll need to move that distance focal point up to reading distance.
Most of us read at a little further away than a third of a meter. So the +2.50 or +2.75 lens or add to our distance lens works great. One MIGHT want a little depth of focus, so optometrists will measure your ability to focus close,.... for instance if you move your finger closer and closer till you can't see the fingerprint anymore, that's your "near point". If that is for instance a quarter of a meter, then the optometrist will recommend that you get an add of about +2.00 which is half the +4.00 of your ability. That's how the thinking goes.
A computer is about maybe a +2.00 distance or half meter away, or thereabouts. figure it out for yourself, and try the plus lenses at the drug store for testing which reading Rx is good for you. You can figure it out so you don't get fatigued.
Now the real problem is that if you have astigmatism, you should use your distance Rx which corrects for that, then move that distance focal point closer to the distance you want to read. That way you won't be fighting the astigmatism distances or circle of least confusion blur, etc.
If you really have problems, go to a good Optometrist. This is what they are trained to DO, figure out these optical problems so that you can see well, without fatigue or other asthenopic symptoms. It's worth the $ to get the right Rx.

I've been dating my BF for almost 8 months. It hurts to even consider this because I love him more than I have ever loved anyone or anything. He is an amazing person who is such a light in thiws world. A great guy, leader, friend, boyfriend...brother. He is a wonderful writer and has so much to offer.
I'm losing my sight and they don't know why..but they are trying to find out. I have been to several Drs in FL and even went from Tampa to Miami and all over the place seeing doctors.
I don't know what will happen. I can't drive it hampers my job...distance is a huge issue..and reading takes contacts..glasses and a magnifier. I suppress my emotions well but I have been really really emo lately and I don't know if I can deal with this. I think my boyfriend deserves so much more than all of this mess and it has all been so sudden.
I love him so so much and I really honestly just think he needs a stable, healthy girl.
What would you do?
I am overwhelmed to say the least of so many answers. I am veyr confused right now and very scared.
He is a great...great guy.
He is like always there for his friends and will drive to get them at 4 am or be the DD or talk to them.
People always call him for advice. He always helps people.
One time I was being all emo because I used to hate myself a little but I supress and smile and like never say anything.
And he was literaly like..I see through you and I love you and you really are beautiful.
And I just like..looked at him. And he PRAYED. He just started praying!
He prayed That God would show me that God values me.
Maybe you guys think he is nice and all but like...I can see God in him. Which is why I just..don't want him to go through this.
I'm kinda scared that breaking up with him would destroy me..but I am way more scared that him staying with me would hurt him.
I know I'm 19 .."I'm too young to know what love is..".and all of that but.. I literaly could not imagine what I'd be like without him. Of course...I have the Lord and he is all I need. But as far as "guys" go I would never be able to get him out of my heart. He has made too much of am impact.
think of what you are saying,
by breaking up with him you wont be helping him, you will be HURTING him! he will be there for you through this, and i pray for you to get better, im sorry thats so sad!
i really hope your sight gets better.

it was a Sunny day, took the bible outside to read, however,as usual, the writings were too small for me to read so I had to get back inside and bring a magnifying glass but the light projected at the magnifier set my bible on fire.
.
LOL.
All's well that ends well.
Edit: @ Smooth Kitty: Yup, you were right, and I'm so glad for that. Actually her net connection collapsed.
In the Music Category, I recently asked for help with finding a CD. I explained that I am visually impaired and have difficulty searching the net.
This is a reply that was posted on Yahoo Answers:
by 'dickn2000':
You need a good enema!! You seem to type pretty good for someone visually impaired. I checked on Amazon and the album is not available. I also checked Napster and it's not available there either. So, my blind friend, your plea for sympathy doesn't do you any good. I guess you're just SOL!!
I don't know that ASKING for help with doing a specific task; help with doing something that one has difficulty doing for oneself is a plea for sympathy.
Sympathy won't help me find the CD...others helping me search for it will.
Thanks to WINDOWS 98SE OS, I can click on the start menu; highlight Programs; then Accessories; then Accessibility; then highlight and click on Magnifier and use the maginfier to, you guessed it, MAGNIFY the print which HELPS me to read and proofread what I type as I type and of course other things as well.
Thankfully, the magnifier magnifies...not sympathize.
An enema, in my opinion, being good for the body, mind and spirit as well, cannot search the internet or anywhere else to help me find the CD.
I don't know what 'SOL' means; I do know that ignorant means a lack of knowledge.
For those that don't know; visually impaired means that either the sight is diminished or there is an impediment, e.g. cataract(s) to the extent that one has difficulty seeing clearly. Individuals that have a need for eyeglasses are visually impaired; they have diminished vision. Hopefully, not to the extent that others and myself are in that others and I need to use a cane when we walk to help us to not bump into things or miss steps or fall step into holes or other things in unfamiliar areas in and outdoors.
When my sight went bad, at first, I was totally blind. The only way that I can describe what being blind is, is that when I was blind I couldn't see anything. It wasn't dark, it wasn't light...it was nothing.
I have always had and believe that I will always have compassion for those that are totally blind.
I will say thank you for checking Napster.
I stated in my explanation that I had already searched Amazon.
If I had not stated that I am visually impaired, most likely, the assumption would have been that I have no vision problems.
Having no vision problems, would my query be a plea for sympathy or asking for help?
To the readers of this message; I don't need your sympahty. If you decide to assist me; please do it because you have the ability to help someone in need.
I have no experience with being blind or visually impaired, however I can say that the response to your original question had nothing to do with either. It was someone who thought that it would be funny to be an asshole at the expense of someone else. Some people just like to get their two points. Unfortunately, on yahoo, they cant weed out jerks, racists and ignoramuses! Dont take it personally, just tune them out, and hopefully someone responded with someone that would help you find the right CD. And by the way, SOL means "sh*t outta luck".... like i said, he's an asshole!

Lighted Magnifier
At her job she got to clean a split of glass. While cleaning, she felt like tiny dots hurting her skin. Then, she realized that the glass was the cause of pain. She got home, and I took a look at it. Thanks to a magnifier mirror, the reflection of light, and a magnifier glass I got to see several tiny dots on her skin. We don't have any thin-sharp tool to get those tiny glasses off her hand. So going to ER is the last option.Do you know any home solution? or if we use epson salt and warm water will work? how can she get those Tiny Glass off? Please, help my sister and me. thanks for the relevant info.
If it is something that happened at work, she should go to the ER and get it taken care of. their report will back her up as to what was in there and if it was related to her work. She can ask for the evidence to take to work with her. She then needs to tell them at work ASAP about what happened and the trip to the ER.
