My almost 9 yo visual learner daughter is needing comprehensive math software curriculum. She just started refreshing her addition and subtraction skills on ZooZillions. She is great at concepts, visual problems, reading problems. Not so good at rote memorization, drilling facts, etc. We need something that is interactive but thorough. No online freebies for games, please. We are a homeschool family with a teaching background. Thank you!
Try these:

(the "z" instead of "s" drives me nuts!)
These two are sites, but not "just fun" sites:

Cosmeo has NutShell math which is awesome! It makes the subscription price ($9.99/mo or $99/yr) worth it alone. Plus, they have on-demand video from series like the Standard Deviants (my son learns a ton from there!) and other educational videos. The entire Cosmeo site is awesome for visual learners! (I'm one of them!)

(They have a free, one-month trial.)
Someone suggested Aleks and I second that one.
Teaching Textbooks is rolling out their lower grades this year. We're doing Algebra and it's GREAT! I hear the lower levels (Pre-Alg, Math 7) are even more fun! Some is done via the CD-roms, some in a workbook, so you get a good mix of learning styles - especially still practice with pencil and paper, not just the pc (where my son would rather do all of his work). You can view sample lectures, problems, and pages at the TT site:
http://www.teachingtextbooks.com/
(The levels don't necessarily match with the grade - i.e., I know many 3rd/4th graders doing Math 7. You'd just need to give the placement tests.)
You could also look into AOP's Switched on Schoolhouse program. You didn't list a grade level, but I assume she's at least 3rd, which is where SOS starts. I'm personally not impressed with SOS, but many people like them.

My favorite math program for K-5 is K12, which is what we use as our base curriculum.

Each fun activity has many play levels, progressing from the easiest to most difficult.
Kids will explore Pirate Island with Sam the Lion, Penelope the Parrot, and Reader Rabbit.
I am the computer aide at an elementary school. We have a computer lab with 30 student computers, and most of the teachers have a few computers in their classrooms. We run Windows XP Pro. Currently, we are using software called Success Maker Enterprise for the kids. I'll say it plainly: I hate it. It sucks. The kids are getting bored with it, and it's a heartache trying to get any kind of useful reports or data from it. Not to mention it is constantly freezing up at one point or another.
I really want to get the kids onto something better. I want something that is fun for them but at the same time convenient for the teachers and I to manage the classes and see their progress. It's Kindergarten through fourth grade, so it needs to be simple for them to log into, such as simply entering their student ID number, which they are already accustomed to doing.
We mostly focus on Math and Reading for the computer software, so if that's all it has, that's perfectly fine.
Well, I gotta go! Class is here! I hope you can point me in the right direction!
I think that KidPix, Kidspiration/Inspiration, Study Island
These have worked great for me. i apologize that i do not have all of the info for each one, but you should be able to look it up.

Hi, I'm an American born Chinese and both of my parents are from Taiwan so I grew up hearing and speaking mixed English and Chinese with a Taiwanese accent although I only have an elementary school level Chinese vocabulary. I was wondering if anyone could recommend any language learning software that uses a Taiwanese accent instead of a Beijing accent because I'm afraid I might start mixing accents or adding in my own incorrect pronounciations. I haven't had much formal instruction in Chinese and I'm mainly trying to increase my vocabulary and reading and writing ability at the moment (I know very few characters). Thanks for any suggestions.
actually there is not much difference between Taiwanese Chinese and Mandarin Chinese...
even though the writing differs and some sentence structures are peculiar, syllable pronunciation are closer than for instance Cantonese Chinese...
it can be explained by the fact that long ago many educated people escaped from Mainland to Taiwan in order to live safely... they preserved and developed high level of culture, speaking standard Chinese language in spite of the fact there are different dialects in different areas of China
finally, you can learn basic syllable transcription (pinyin) and use it to learn the language while communicating with some Taiwanese on-line... learning Traditional characters is a hard task for a beginner
Is there any cool, interactive software out there that teaches you all levels of math from elementary school up to college level? I always sucked at math, and I am interested in learning it at home, at my own pace, without having to read boring books or hiring tutors..
I am working on an example book, that may fit your needs. See below:

Elementary School Career Education – The Need, Basics, Examples ...
According Ediger (2000), elementary school career education is important. Ediger stated that “the elementary school years are not too early to begin to achieve a vision of what one desires to do in life contributing to the world of work”. Without career education, students have unrealistic perceptions of careers due to a lack of knowledge and poor decision making. Students have limited knowledge and exposure to careers. (2,3) When students look at the different industries e.g. sports, media and entertainment, most students underestimate the skills and time required to have successful careers. (3)
In career awareness programs, students do not make premature career choices. Elementary school career education is not career exploration or career preparation. Elementary students remain open to new career ideas and possibilities. (7,8,13,15) Elementary students build awareness of self, personal interactions, school, and the workforce. (2,15) Elementary school counselors and teachers build self-awareness, family awareness, school awareness, community awareness, career/ work awareness, attitude development, skill development, decision making strategies, and self-worth.
