Im looking for software that will give me a decibel reading of audio so i can match up volumes of acapellas...?

It would also be great if i could change the volume by decibel so i can match the volumes of acapellas in my mixes to an exact decibel so that the volumes are perfectly equal. im looking to a career in mixing after many suggestions, so im willing to spend alot of money. Appreciation for any help.

First rule of audio engineering:

Don't be a slave to meters.

Although the frequency range of the human voice is limited the human ear does not perceive all frequencies at the same level.
Two frequencies measuring the same level on a meter will not be heard at the same level.
As a way to replicate this play a track from a CD. (On a stereo system not PC speakers.)
When played at a high volume level the low, middle and high frequencies are balanced.
If the volume is then turned down very low the sound becomes very thin and mid range.
This is because the human ear does not perceive low and high frequencies very well, or equally, at low volume levels.

Dynamic range is the difference between the quietest and loudest parts of a recording.
Some vocalists have a very limited dynamic range and others much wider.
You don't say why you think it's necessary so this is just presumption.
Do the acapellas you want to adjust have a wide dynamic range?
Very loud and very quiet parts?
The best way to even them out is with compression, more specifically in this case, peak limiting.
The loudest parts are reduced in level automatically when the effect is applied thus reducing the dynamic range.
A free program you can use to try this is Audacity.

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

Highlight the whole track then select "compressor" from the effect menu.
The amount of compression can be selected.
Too much compression at once can affect the audio so if a ratio of 8:1 gives the result you want compress twice at 4:1. (ballpark figures - not what you have to do. It's just an example)

Meters are a guide - not an answer.
The final test is what you hear.

Audio engineering is much more than just "mixing".
If you want to do "live sound" short courses may be available in your area.
If you want to do studio recording the course will be much more extensive as well as being a bigger drain on your wallet.
If you want an income generating career you need professional training.
You need instruction from people who DO know not from those who "think" they do.

Is there any such software to merge audio files so that the two individual files....keep reading in question?

so that the two individual files become one file that contains both of the original audio tracks playing simultaneously? Btw, it has to be free...thanks a ton in advance!

how i can read an audio file by matlab software?

please help me.
i want to read an audio file with a specific format (for example mp3) and then save data that is stored in it into a matrix in matlab software and then process it.
how i can do this?

Before I answer. Let me explain... I loath matlab, and there is probably a way to make it load audio files and do everything for you (though i doubt it can decode mp3, probably only raw wav files) unfortunately I find getting Matlab to do anything at all difficult.

anyway, I'd use a language where it's easier to load audio files. Theres probably a good few libraries for .net or java or python etc... whichever your preference. Then print out the values to a file putting a newline character between each value then in matlab:

load 'path/to/file'

and it creates a matrix for you, if you wish to add more coloumns add a space between them in the text file.

Trying to learn more about software available to turn text into audio (eg to read you information)?

I am wanting to learn a large about of information (eg legal texts, legislation and cases) but have difficulty reading. I have heard that there are software programs available what read information to you (turn written text into audio) or services that do this. Does anyone know anything about these or have any pointers on how to go about finding out what is available.

Microsift has an article at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306902 that tells you how to turn this on in XP. The default voices suck, though. There are 3rd party voices available if you want something less artificial.
