Do you have any advice for people who are recently dealing with low vision?

I have dyplopia it is a fancy word for double vision. I might have grown out of it because my glasses don't help not to mention they cramp my style. I have gone to the eye doctor recently and I didn't get any answers because the doctor was being a jerk. He has quite the reputation in our town with 3 lawsuits for malpractice. I don't know my options for other eye doctors because I live in small town. I'd rather go blind than go to another eye doctor. There is one in El Paso but I live in New mexico and I don't have time for th trip and I don't know if my insurance will cover it. If I go blind , I already know about resources ie; Magnifier , narrator on the computer , large print , audio books etc. I know the letters A-F in braile . lol. there is a blind school in my town. I can't say care any more.
A note to fruit salad : I called it low vision because I can hardly read normal type books . I see double then things go blurry. If I wanted a optical health lession I'd go to WebMD - Hope they have large type! They are my eyes , I have had them for 22 years . I also thought about how I have a learning disbilty and maybe
I use large print so things aren't cluttered so I can process it easier.

Diplopia/double vision isn't low vision. Have you been told you were expected to go blind? It's very rare in young people.

In many cases a simple pair of glasses is the answer for diplopia. When you say you might have grown out of it, what does that mean? Do you see double or not?

Russ has macular degeneration and uses a Vision Technology electronic magnifier to help him see, read and enjoy life. This is his story.

Where can I buy a great magnifier?

I'm looking for an inexpensive magnifier that could be laid on a text or novel page to make tiny print larger and easier to see. My vision is not quite 20/50, shouldn't drive at night but not low vision, so I don't qualify for help from the college student services dept. Many of my texts use such a small font that I end up holding it nearly touching my glasses! There must be a better way, so am hoping a clever answerer can help me out!

  • iPhone magnifier app « Low Vision News

My Apple iPhone is one of my favourite gadgets, and I was interested to see that there is now a magnifier app known as ‘iCanSee’ available through iTunes for 59p (or 99¢).

It has a zoom function which claims to magnify up to 4x, although when I tested it the maximum magnification setting only equated to 2x at the closest working distance which did not blur the image. The autofocus works pretty well on my 3GS (I don’t think other versions of the iPhone have focusing cameras so the app may not work as well on those). On my phone it focuses down to a minimum distance of about 10cm and the motion blur when the phone is moved along a line of text isn’t bad at all. I should mention that it’s pretty unusable unless you enable the full screen mode. It’s also pretty good for distance magnification, although it’s much harder to hold a phone steady than a monocular telescope.
