I wore gas perms for 10 years but am now no longer able to wear them because I have developed very dry eyes. I have been trying soft toric lenses for months changing prescripton and brand and nothing is working. I have a very strong prescription about -6.00 and my astigmatism is wierd in one eye, axis 50. I have tried oasys, they would hang too low. Purevision and Softlens are too dry and sticky. Air optics burn my eyes and my vision is unclear. Pro Clear was uncomfortable. Anybody have any ideas? I have been trying trials for 4 months now. I don't want to wear my coke bottle glasses. I'm very glad that my doc is trying so hard for me but I am thinking he is about to tell me there aren't any there options. Help.
We have a client at our clinic currently having the same difficulties as you are. Switching from gas perms to soft lenses is a tough and tricky process. You probably have a bit of corneal fatigue from wearing gas perms for so long, which may make fitting you even more difficult. You may have to find some that work for your vision correction, but give up comfort for awhile. Don't give up....your Optometrist probably won't either. Occular Science might be one to try. There are off-the-shelf adaptive optics systems which shift the optical path to compensate for the turbulence-induced movement of a target star in the field of view. A full-blown AO scope with deformable optical surfaces would be a formidable undertaking in terms of both hardware and software, and a larger scope would probably be a cheaper way to increase resolution.
