Does anyone know a web-site making domain (think wordpress, blogspot, xanga, flickr and more) that is updated with blogs, video, pictures that can be decoded into the BrailleNote computer, and has options for low-vision to change to contrast? my friend is thinking of developing a new blogsite but is accessible to low-vision and blind people as well.
You shouldn't have to because all those options are all ready available under the Accessibility Options in the Control Panel.
If a person sets up to change the Contrast, Magification, Narrative etc then it doesn't matter what they are doing, either working off line or using sites on the the internet the computer's display and audio settings will remain the same.

My husband and I are looking into adopting a baby girl who is blind and I was wondering if anyone would be willing to share their experiences with their own children.
A really sweet friend of mine had 3 low vision children, her oldest son (now a 30 year old professional musician) was almost legally blind when he was 5. She told me a story about some therapist who "taught" him to see. There was some exercises and learning system that helped him to conceptualize vision and that story just made an impression on me, especially since I met him and I'd never have guessed that once he couldn't see - he wore glasses but I've seen him without them too. Bless you in your decision making - sounds like a really sweet thing you're contemplating. May God give you the strength and love to do so or to make the best decision. Peace.

I have low vision; I'm basically blind in my left eye. Does anyone know any convenient ways I can read music ? or see my laptop more clearly? I've been a working classical musician all my life so this has come as a shock to me. Thanks for your consideration.
hi!!!
wow, ur question really stood out for me! its awsome! um...i think i should explain..
im in high school right now and music is MY LIFE! i've been involved with music since i was 2..thats when i "played" my first little kid piano. but my main instrument is clarinet, i've been playing that for about 7/8 years. anyway, im legally blind and me and my music teachers have come up with some creative ways for me to learn my music for the bands and choirs at my school.
im not sure wut your vision is, but mines 20/400 in my rite eye and i too am almost blind in my left eye..i c like lite and sometimes movement. anyway, i have always learned my music through rote (by ear). i told my band and choir instructor this and since i want to persue music in college and beyond, they are showing me how to read music again (i used to b able to rely on my vision in elementary, but its gotten deteriorated). however, i still learn by rote and i recommend it. also, they have enlarged my music so i can at least c it a little better. that has helped me with reading rythms, but i still rely on listening. my band director will make a cd of my part, and give it to me. i still read as much as i can with my music. there's also musical braille, but i dont reccomend it. its really complicated and it doesnt seem very effecient. my advice is to either enlarge your music on legal sized paper, or have some1 make a cd for you and learn by ear.
as for your laptop, i use a screen reader called JAWS. it reads everything i type and everything others would see. i also have this screen magnifier called MAGic which is like ZOOMtext..if you've heard of that. it magnifies everything on the screen and is really great. u can set it just about any level of magnification you need to. here's a website where you can get a free 40 min. download of the software im talking about:
www.freedomscientific.com
this is awsome...u can even buy the software from it!
i really hope this helps! its soo cool to kno that ur in2 music as much as i am. u sound like a really great muscian and i hope u do well! good luck in everything! it'll all work out..no worries, it just takes a little creativity :).
Best Wishes from a rookie muscian!!
esh
ps: let me know how it works out!! good luck sure

My friend has very low vision, legally blind. She uses a magnifying glass now to look at her tiny phone, it is less than stellar for her for sure. wondering what kind of phones offer good technology , like a bit larger keypad and bigger screen with options to have bigger font. I know there's a blackberry one, but the data plan is pretty pricey.
Any help would be great thanks. Serious answers please.
My siblings & I felt that our parents should carry a cell phone (They were evacuated during a huge fire, & we didn't know whether they'd gotten out!) So, I did some searching, as Dad's eyes aren't what they used to be! This first one is what I recommended:

They only will use it for dire emergencies, but, they do go out & about still by themselves---So, it's good for them to carry whenever they do! I don't think he's really used it, but the one live link (above) seems to be to a happy customer's Best Answer!

Actually, with the available technology most office jobs can be down by people with limited vision. Screen readers, braille devices and such help with it. It really comes down to the office being able to make accommodations so that the blind/partially blind person can do the job.
