Low Vision Aids

Over Fifteen Hundred visually Impaired people from Pune and around have improved their vision with the low cost, low vision devices manufactured ...

What else can I do to preserve the meager vision I have left?

I am 24 and I have monocular vision. Lost most of my sight more than 10 years ago. I survived by feeling my way through. My functioning eye is very astigmatic. I am not using any low vision aid of any kind. I have multi-focal lenses as my eye is very astigmatic. However, it is very difficult for me to read at close range because the lense is sensitive to distance. I work with a computer with bare eye. The best I can do is magnify the screen by zooming it. I read very close to the monitor(my face only about 3-4 inches from the screen)

I know that at some point, I may go totally blind. I want to delay that as much as I can. I worry about straining my eyes too much but what can I do?

Have you seen an eye doctor who specializes in low vision? If your eye doctor hasn't helped you much with this, you may want to ask for a referral to someone who deals more with low vision patients. (You can also call other local optometrists and ask them about what they do for low vision.) It sounds like you are struggling more than you have to because there are numerous gadgets and devices that can help you maximize your remaining vision.

In Canada, why can't low income people share shares of stock?

In the US you can't do this either I don't think.

But what if the Govt of Canada could fascilitate an easy channel for any Canadian to invest in Bay Street stocks for less than 1 Loonie per person?

And you can have multiple channels for the poorest person to invest in things normally requiring wealthy investments.

for example, poor people could pool income to buy wholesale products in bulk and then receive produce for much less than Retail prices.

Poor people in Canada could also perhaps share one house broken into tiny rooms for the fraction of the price.

The idea is we need services By the poor, of the poor, for the poor, whereby the poor own and create and are not at the mercy of retailers, corporations, and the need to work for a rich man if they choose to live an alternative lifestyle.

And also there should be a culture trend towards legalizing riding in freight cars for free. Biking on roads, Dumpster diving, sleeping in vehicles, all to aid the poor in chopping off mundane costs to achieve their long-term goals.

Can't this be done? isn't this the vision that sparked the Bohemia you have before rich people by up land and gentrify an area? The greatest art movements were grassrooted from inspired poor low income people in large numbers. This is where most creativity originates before the rights are bought up to the highest bidder, right?

Why can't the govt of Canada fascilitate services for poor, by poor, of poor, without reliance on the wealthy, not to excuse the wealthy by ANY means, but to give the poor people a stronghold that is theirs to keep!

In Canada
NOTE: I think the whole idea of poor pooling resources into one stream of wealth would receive support both from Stephen Harper AND the Liberals and NDPers.

NDPers would wonder why rich can't be taxed into this, but my answer to that is when rich pay into it, they dmeand an interest out of it, or they control it under the pretense they were taxed. I say THERE NEEDS TO BE SOMETHING THE POOR OWN IN COMMON, that they have unrestricted access to operate

Actually, I think you can. The Government of Canada has special mutual funds known as RRSPs (Registered Retirement Savings Plans, like a 401K), and also introduced the Tax-Free Savings Account GICs (guaranteed investment certificate).

With minimal investment ($500 initial deposit), you can open an RRSP and donate to it as much or as little as you can afford. Some people have automatic deductions to take $20 or more off each paycheck and put it into the RRSP. All money put in there is not taxed until you try to take it out, which is usually done when you retire and don't have as high an income. Owning a share in a mutual fund means you could own as little as 1/1000th of a stock or savings bond.

And the TFSA are even better. You only need $25 to start one. You can take the money out at any time. And the interest you make on that money is not considered income and so is not taxed. And once you have $500 in the account, you flip that to a TFSA GIC or RRSP to get an even better interest rate, still without having to pay tax on the interest earned.

One of the main problems is not that the resources are not there, it's that many people either simply live paycheck to paycheck and are unable to put that loonie away that you mentioned, or are unwilling to put away an extra $5 a week for their future.

I have been doing investing in an RSSP since the age of 19, starting with a few dollars from each paycheck and now up to a few hundred per pay period. I don't even notice the money missing because it is taken off at source and so I live within my means with what is left.

I am lucky to have a steady decent-paying job, but the truth is almost anyone can do it if they simply do without for some other item. Buy the Walmart shoes that are on sale for $19 instead of the $100 Nike's. Give yourself a permanent instead of going to the hair dresser. Bring a coffee from home in a thermos instead of going for Starbucks or Tim Hortons. Drink water instead of a can of Coke with your lunch. All of these save money (as long as you set that money aside for savings).

Recession... time to enforce Deportation ?

This is mainly about illegal immigrants.

Does anyone else feel like they are someone of a help to the recession?..
aside of all the banks and such which actually caused the recession..

I'm talking about people who are being laid off work due to this but can't receive any financial aid. All programs who assist low income families due to being laid off by the recession along with other programs who aid no longer have room to help all these people.
For example medicare is riding of their free vision and dental programs because there is just too many people on this program.
So everyone has to suffer... People who truly need this aid.. disabled people and the elderly. They no longer have any vision or dental programs and have no way of paying for it on their own.

Now my next issue.
Illegal immigrants make up around half the percentage of people covered by welfare.
and now to get more into that... more than 30% of those illegal immigrants have families which they don't report their husbands working so they get that extra income. They get money for every child they have. plus wick.. and sometimes even the women work and down report that.
Along with that.. their garages are rented out as homes.

So they get at least 4 different sources of income coming in. Plus free medical from claiming medicare.

They break the law and see nothing wrong with this as long as they have enough money to put them into new 2 SUVs and a new truck.

Do your research before you bad mouth me.

Innocent americans who abide by the law who are being affected by the recession who have worked their whole life and are down to the last dime of their rainy day fund are suffering.. they can't get on any aid cuz it's full.
They lose their car and forced to drive an 85 corolla while these illegal people are riding pretty in their brand new rides, taking advantage of the system and not having to worry about anything.

When my great grandparents came to this country they made sure they got their citizenship asap! they lived by the law and were happy and thankful to do so. As did most of the immigrants in that generation. They were so happy to given the chance to be a free american. But it seems now days they don't care about America.

I think citizens should be first in line to receive any kind of aid. I mean it's only fair right?
I would never go to another country and take advantage of their system then expect to receive all these free benefits. It's just wrong!

Everywhere I go... I see illegals who can't even speak english driving these big new cars. They work under the table and have a legal family member sign for everything they own.
It's embarrassing to see them park next to honest americans who are driving a beat down car just because they were laid off too late to receive any help. They are forced to move in with a family member because they lost their house.
While illegals are living comfy in their house that they just remolded with all the money they cheated from the government.

I'm not against illegals but I'm against them abusing our system.
I'm not categorizing all illegals do it like that. But a fare enough percentage of them do...
It's like stereo types... they all came from something true right?

It has been past time. I am just glad more U.S. tax paying citizens have become aware of the actual destruction of illegals.

Spiritually Speaking: How do you react to a threat?

You are by yourself at night, eating at a small roadside dinner. A couple of obnoxious tough guys spot you and sit down across the table from you. Their talk is derisive and decidedly threatening. Though they have not yet physically interfered with you, it is obvious that they intend to rough you up. Through the influence of the various centers, your behavior might be...

1: Earth...
You continue to eat in an undisturbed fashion. You pay only slight attention to the comments, but you do not acknowledge the threatening nature of the talk or let it bother you. You follow normal routine in a quiet, confident manner while checking out the locations of doors and anything that could aid you when the fight begins. You finish the meal, pay the bill, and walk out if you can. You use your coolness as a possible deterrent and let them make the first move if there is to be any physical encounter.

2:Water...
You joke around with them and make laughing wisecracks as though you were one of their buddies. You take over and direct the conversation whenever you get the chance. You ask them where you should go to find some entertainment, ask them about their cars or motorbikes. You sound naively sincere and you seem to be convinced that they will not really hurt you. You laugh it off when they make direct references to injuring you. You suddenly tell them you will be right back and take off for the restroom. When they amble in to find you, you surprise attack with a trash can battering ram to the face, and finish them off with any weapons or aids you can improvise. You disappear before they regain consiousness.

3:Fire...
When it is obvious that they are about to make their move, you dramatically lift the pepper shaker to a position about two feet above the table top.You stare them in the eyes and then shift your vision to the pepper shaker, taking their eyes with you. With their attention on your hands, you slowly and deliberately remove the shaker cap. While they are watching your show, you inconspicuously raise one foot beneath and position the heel in front of the crotch of the man across from you. With the cap off the pepper shaker, you suddenly roar with an explosive shout and fling the pepper into the second man's face, and immediately shove the heel of your poised foot into the crotch of the thug across from you. You dump the table over on them both, while kicking and beating them into submission. You disappear before any shocked witnesses can react or call the poilce.

4:Wind...
You begin acting crazier than they are. You twitch around and make incoherent references to keeping a low profile for a while so the police will not find you. You giggle a lot and then fly into a rage at something insignificant. You go into some sort of fit or seizure, and your attacker slip away to aviod the attention you are drawing.

i am more like fire and this is true
