Does this make him a racist and guilty of a hate crime?Or does it make him a confused 9-year-old in need ?

This takes a minute to read. Please skip this question if reading creates a hardship for you-Please answer another question.A Glendale elementary school principal has admitted to telling a 9-year old boy that it is OK to have racist feelings as long as you keep them to yourself.

“As we said to (the boy) when he was in here, in your heart you may have that feeling, and that is OK if that is your personal belief,” Abraham Lincoln Traditional School Principal Virginia Voinovich said in a tape-recorded parent-teacher conference.

The boy was suspended for three days this month for allegedly committing a “hate crime” by using the expression “brown people.”

In an interview Monday, Voinovich would not address her comments, first saying she didn't remember the incident, then demanding a copy of the recording and finally insisting that she could not talk about a student's discipline.

The circumstances of the boy’s suspension itself raise troubling questions about student discipline, interrogation and oversight at Abraham Lincoln.

According to school officials, the boy made a statement about “brown people” to another elementary student with whom he was having a conflict. They maintain it was his second offense using the phrase.

But the tape recording indicates this only came out after another parent was allowed to question the boy and elicited from him the statement that he “doesn't cooperate with brown people.”

After that was reported to the boy's teacher, he was made to stand in front of his class and publicly confess what he'd said.

The boy maintains that he never said it; that the words were put in his mouth by the parent who questioned him. That parent happens to be the mother of the student with whom he is having a conflict—and she happens to work for Abraham Lincoln as a detention-room officer.

The tape indicates that rather than just spouting off with racial invective, the boy was asked first why he didn't want to cooperate with brown people by the parent/school official.

In court, this might be called entrapment. Not to mention a conflict of interest.

Officials at the Washington Elementary School District, who are supposed to oversee Voinovich, wouldn't comment about the boy’s suspension. They said only the principal is qualified to talk about it.

Well, the boy’s mother is talking, and she is angry. She has also removed her son from the school.

“I want parents to know … that principals can abuse their powers,” Sherry Neve, 35, said. “Principals need to have pro-active supervisors. I want the parents to know that the principal was influencing my son in a way I wouldn't want him to be raised.”

Neve said school officials didn’t advise her of the incident until several days after they questioned her son. When Neve objected to the suspension during the conference, Voinovich told her that she didn't have any rights; that parents give up their rights to discipline when they send a child to school, the tape shows.

“If you don't want that, you can take him out of here,” Voinovich said tersely.

Neve insists that her son is not a racist and that he never differentiated a person's color until the school made it in an issue.

“We were raised to be color blind,” she said. “My children were raised the same way.”

But let's assume for a minute that the boy actually made the comment. Does this make him a racist and guilty of a hate crime? Or does it make him a confused 9-year-old in need of counseling?

Instead of taking an opportunity to educate the boy and get to the root of the problem, the principal taught him another lesson altogether: It's OK to feel like a racist as long as you keep your feelings to yourself.

Kids often say the darndest things. Apparently, so do principals.

I think at 9 years old he is only a child and should not be punished for saying brown. This is a color and it is not racist in any way. Why is it that everyone can use the term white, but if a white uses a term such as brown or black it is considered racist. The school should have notified his parents before any action was taken. I believe it is another case of PC going way to far. My son is 9 years old and he has always described people as light skinned or browned skin. He uses this as a description because he does not see the ethnic differences in people. It is the same with hair color he uses the terms light haired and dark haired. I would never consider this racist.

I cannot understand why a parent of another child was talking to this child. Even if she was an employee of the school she had no business talking to the child since it involved her child.

I also do not think the principal should have talked to the child about racism. This should have been discussed with the parents first. I also would like to know the exact quote that was made by the child and the what the exact situation was. It is kind of unclear on exactly what happened.

According to a news report, a certain private school in Washington was recently faced with a unique problem. A number of 12-year-old girls were beginning to use lipstick and would put it on in the bathroom. That was fine, but after they put on their lipstick, they would press their lips to the mirror leaving dozens of little lip prints. Every night the maintenance man would remove them, and the next day the girls would put them back. Finally the principal decided that something had to be done. She called all the girls to the bathroom and met them there with the maintenance man. She explained that all these lip prints were causing a major problem for the custodian who had to clean the mirrors every night (you can just imagine the yawns from the little princesses). To demonstrate how difficult it had been to clean the mirrors, she asked the maintenance man to show the girls how much effort was required. He took out a long-handled squeegee, dipped it in the toilet, and cleaned the mirror with it. Since then, there have been no lip prints on the mirror. There are teachers ... and then there are educators . .i have to wonder how much longer the obama supporters will keep kissing the mirror

It is obvious that the democrats and leftist liberals have never been to Alaska. I think that everyone should know not to poke a grizzly bear with a stick and wake it up because it will be very angry and attack! Now factor in a cub that’s there and you’ve really got a problem! This is what the liberal has done by attacking Sarah palin and her daughter Bristol. She may have been hurt and had some resentment about accepting the v.p.offer, however now she is angry and will fight with all her might. she is a force to be reckoned with! She is very smart and not afraid to lay it on the line. Some politicians don’t go to certain areas against their opponents out of respect for the office and the need to work with them in the future. But Sarah palin don’t she will get rid of her problems by laying it all out for the world to see and the opponent will be eliminated! So watch this lady in action now and don’t be too surprised when she takes on the media or the biggest liberal organization out there! There will be heads rolling! P.s. Obama might have been to Alaska before because he said that families are off limits he may know a thing or two about grizzly bears!

Funny and interesting.

Why does schedule not matter when we speak of Ohio state but does matter when we mention other teams?

Seems to me Ohio State and big 10 fans want strength of schedule dismissed when we discuss their school of blind schedule. However they make a big issue of other teams not playing anyone. Looking at the big 10 nonconference schedule I'd say it might be a conference mandate to only play wimpy nobodies. I only saw 2 teams with a tough nonconference game ( Illinois against Missouri and Michigan vs Oregon) both were losses. The rest of games were div 1 AA or a small div 1A school. Yet they want to bust Hwaii on their schedule? or kick Boise State out of the rankings for having the same offence? (yes BSU lost to Washington but Michigan lost to Appalachian STATE- a Div 1 AA team!!!!)
If you punish Boise State for weak schedule.. then you'd have to punish the whole big Ten the same way.
I think that it is a good idea to Punish Ohio State.. Higher then Boise State sure but not top 5

OSU gets to be ranked number one because they are OSU. People who vote go, Ohio State? Well, they must be good because they're Ohio State. They have all sorts of *tradition* and *history* and that automatically makes people think more highly of them.

It's just name recognition.

As for the dude who says that polls are just polls and don't decide the best team in the nation... that's a load of bunk. The teams that play for the national championship (i.e. the best teams in the nation) are decided by using the polls. So, yes, the polls ARE supposed to reflect who the best team in the nation is.

Why is it my 'blind faith' hasn't led me into a wall yet?

I'm serious... i mean, after all, i'm "blind" right? I'm just a mixed up Christian without a clue.

I mean besides the fact that i was an honour role student in high school and currently have a 3.8 (out of 4 for those who are clueless) GPA at the finest Art college in Canada (Sheridan), i've only taken special interest courses in all the sciences, philosophy(i've come up with theories based on Freedom Vs Determinism argument), anthropology, psychology, sociology, world history and World religion(during and after high school).

i've owned and fixed 5 cars (got my 6th today) , i know some computer programming languages(Java mostly), and i know how to draw/paint/use graphic design programs (Photoshop) and 3D design programs(3DSM and MAYA/sculpt with plastercene/woodwork(i've built a St Patricks day float)/i know how to do graffiti (possibly the hardest form of art: paint cans are very unforgiving) I have art connections in Toronto and Washington D.C...
Also in respects to sociology/psychology/philosophy I’ve written numerous papers and filled out many notebooks on my thoughts and analysis of the human condition referencing it those involved in my life. I have a thorough understanding behind the motivation and drive of human desire and functioning. I have studied and read the works of B.F Skinner, Pavlov, St Aquinas, Freud (especially), Immanuel Kant, Archimedes, Aristotle, Plato, Socrates… and more.

I’m currently studying Physics (for the summer before I go back to College in Sept) and biology, I have a basic idea and understanding of Evolution but I’m still pursuing a definite answer.
I’ve also spent 6 years weight training and have a long history of sports as well. And I’ve had a life outside of school and education as well… like parties, drinking, smoking, chilling with tons of girls…etc. it was only temporary but I grew very uninterested in it, it became very mundane.

Among all else, I’m only 21.

So where is my blind faith taking me? I wonder?
this is just a taste of my artwork too

&Mdash; Cory Kadlik has never let being blind stop him from golfing, skating, learning martial arts or riding a dirt bike. He had his doubts when it came to fencing.

"I never even knew this was possible," said Kadlik, 19, of Medway as epees clanged, his teammates whooped in triumph, and coaches barked out instructions in the gym of Perkins School for the Blind.

"I'm on Twitter, and I mentioned to my followers and friends that I was going to be in a fencing tournament and I had ten replies saying 'Blind people can fence? Really? No way!' Yeah, anything is possible."

Kadlik duels Monday in what's being billed as a first-of-its kind match between students at schools for the blind — Perkins and The Carroll Center for the Blind in nearby Newton.
