AudioBooksfortheBlind.net Blind or not, we all love books right? Here is my promise to you in the next two minutes, I'm going to reveal a way ...
I have started a petition on the Downing Street website asking that more books be made available in the talking book format for blind and partially sighted people.
Do you agree with this? If you do, would you consider signing my petition available at the link below,
If you decide to sign, please pass the link on to as may groups or individuals as you can who you might think would sign.
Thanks

Mia76, Access to computers and the internet is done through speech software, but it is very expensive.
Yes, and they should also somehow have easier access to the internet. I'm sorry that I don't know HOW that is going to work out, but if they can't have access to the internet they are missing a lot--it doesn't help educate them and it's imply unfair...
But aside from braille books, they should also have PodCasts. This wont only be helpful for blind people but also for people who have ADD/ADHD and Dyslexia. What do you think?
PS: I would love to sign your petition, but I'm not British. Sorry. BUT GOOD LUCK!

I don't see it on amazon.com, so would recommend trying www.bookfinders.com which is good for out-of-print and rare books.
I saw a review in People magazine on this book. It talked about how he struggles with his new sight, seeing his wife for the first time. How at times he wished to go back to the familiarity of blindness. Any ideas please?:)
its called Crashing Through by Robert Kersen. this is per Ann at Borders.
get talking books from the Association for the Blind?
My brother is taking post graduate courses and is having a hard time getting the books he needs on tape. The Blind Association furnishes a special type of player for their books. How can he get this player and/or where can he get books recorded to order?
Thanks.
I'm sure you can contact them on behalf of your brother. In fact, you probably can do so via the Internet.
Also, I have noticed a lot of talking books in Borders lately, both on tape and on CDs. You might check that out.

The Hills Are Burning: The Blind Leading The Blind?
I played it off cool, but secretly, I thought it was great. When I first got into this business (more specifically, into my chosen departments), I was well aware that this was a boy's club. I knew it was going to be tough, both in terms of breaking in and the actual work. But I didn't care. The young, naive me, the one who still practiced her Oscar acceptance speech in the shower, thought about how great it would be if I ended up being a pioneer. I would be forever recorded in the history books as the one who changed it all and opened up what was once a male dominated field to women everywhere. Someday, because of me, it wouldn't be too far fetched for a little girl to dream of one day being...
