Readers For The Blind

Answers

When you ask the public which one are better readers on avarage out of people who are blind or deaf?

Most people think the deaf

Most people who have learned Braille read - and read on a consistently high level. Some people who are Blind do not learn to read Braille but depend on voice activated computer programs.

The majority of people who are deaf are functionally illiterate. Not all, but most. (I gave a bunch of citations to research in a previous question.)

So the fact of the matter is that more people who are Blind read better than people who are Deaf, but since fewer and fewer Blind children are being taught to read Braille on account of computer usage - this may change in the future if it hasn't begun already.

Palm Reader,

Please Help! Anyone have a family member or friend using a Mobile NOKIA reader 4the BLIND?

Have a friend who would like to purchase a mobile which will be able to be used as a scanner for documents and then it reads out information. I believe it's called a KNFBlind reader. Also a Nokia82 is also used for this purpose. Any info would be most welcome.
I understand that the reader itself is very expensive, but the Nokia 82 can also be used with downloaded software. Know anyone who's done it? + did it work?

so what is ur question?

How do I find work as a reader for the blind or as a narrator for books on tape?

I need to earn money with this, so volunteer slots won't be the best solution for me.

Here are the people that already do that work, why not get in touch with them directly.

(You are now a step nearer to the job you would like to do, Good Luck.)

Are there digital e-readers that can talk to, for example, a blind person?

The Amazon Kindle e-reader has the Text to speech function. You can see point 6 here:

I'm an Amazon Kindle owner and I love it. I've also given more of my opinions on the device here:

VIEWPOINT: Herald editorial based on misunderstanding about Badlands proposal ...

WASHINGTON — The Herald editorial by Mike Jacobs said I had a “blind spot” about the North Dakota Badlands (“Dorgan shows a blind spot about N.D. Badlands, Page A4, Dec. 8).

That, of course, is not true. The fact is, I grew up near the Badlands in western North Dakota, and I believe it’s one of the great treasures of our state.

But it appears that Jacobs’ editorial was based on a misunderstanding he had about the proposal to give a “historic” designation to some 12,000 acres in the Badlands. Jacobs was led to believe the issue involved the entire Badlands, and that’s just not the case.

Let me explain the specific issue so that Jacobs and readers will understand my concern.

Michael Lewis' The Blind Side « Jeff Kelly Lowenstein's Blog

Like many people, I am uncomfortable with the on-going Hollywood fascination with stories of heroic white folk who manage to rescue black folk from this or that social pathology. While this might be mitigated by the fact that this is a “true” story, there is still the fact this kind of story is far too often related to make white liberals of a certain bent feel good about themselves and their relationship with the African-American community. Considering this film is being released at the same time as a film on the South African Rugby team (with similar themes) and the film Precious, with its detailed account of all sorts of familial dysfunction in a black family leave me wondering about the motivation behind these films, and the weird juxtaposition of them released almost simultaneously.
