Ten years ago, I was really into art. I painted, drew, did graphic design, and sculpted with clay. I even sold a few paintings, and one of them appeared in a 1997 calendar from the Printing House for the Blind. I'm considering starting up with it again, but I'm afraid of being a perpetual starving artist. I am aware of the difficulties artists have, and I need to be able to support myself. This is the reason I stopped my art and got a part-time job and earned an AA degree so I could develop work skills. I would really like to do my art, but how practical is it with the cost of living being so high (especially in California)? or should I continue focusing only on making a living?
It is difficult to do both. I am an artist...I went to school for it...but I cannot concentrate on it because I have a family to support. For the most part my job and family life take too much from me to dedicate extra time and energy into my art...my passion. If you don't have children and are just supporting yourself, GO FOR IT! You will regret it forever if you don't try. It takes a lot of ambition, hard work and self promotion. It may take some time before you start making good money, but at least you will be happy and fulfilled. If it doesn't work out there will always be a 9-5 out there.
I ask because I live in an area where just about everyone has a horse/pony. The people 2 houses down from me have a horse and for the past 2 months this poor horse has been blindfolded. I understand some horses will try to jump a fence. But this fence is more than 10 feet high and the area where he is is filled with trees, his water and his trowel. Also theres a mean dog that is always barking at him when the owners are not there. He is completely alone, except when the owners put the dog in the back yard with him. I have never seen them take him out to run. And when I go out walking in the morning and night, I notice no hoof prints in the sand around the house. Every time I see this poor horse whom even has to eat blind I want to kick butt and steal the horse and take it somewhere where it will be able to have enough room to run and has company and can enjoy seeing SOMETHING and not followed by a mean dog. And no, they no horse trailer to take it walking. What would you do?
No it is blindfolded in that it has to "feel" for its food and guess at how to get to places. Sometimes I startle it when their is no wind to catch my scent
It is also not blinders because I can see it, in that I can get as close to a foot from the horse which is usually standing next to the fence, the house being a corner house. It is a small blanket towel.
Just becasue i have 3 horses myself - i agree - something should be done, I hate animal abuse- if i were you i would seriously call the animal society or animal abuse people, it is cruel to keep a horse confined, and especially if it is blindfolded - My horses are let out to run in the pasture everyday for 12 hours and they LOVE it - Everytime i let them out they buck and kick and run the whole fence and back and just have fun froliccing in the green grass, They only get rode a couple times a week but still no horse should be treated like that
Personally if i could i would steal the horse and take care of it
PS. do me a favor call the animal society - if it is considered abuse in there eyes, which it wuould be - your neighbor would have the option to give up the horse or have the horse forcefully taken and fined
its not my decision but i hope you do the right thing
good luck
keep in touch i would like to know what happens

Hello thank you for listening.sorry if so long...I ve been working on my own cleaning business for 2 years now, and its finally doing good, it has taken time, but its working out well.. I have 5 regulars, and a new one. My question is this..I don't charge by the hour, if I did I feel 20 an hour would be about the pay. I charge by the house and I know I am cheap...I would rather keep a regular client than loose one..so most of the houses I charge flat 75.00 and that works so far...but this new house is a 2 story 4,336 square foot home, the upstairs is 3 bedrooms all carpet, 2 bath upstairs and a huge play room, I cleaned her entire house 1 day took me 5 hours, I charged her 100 dollars, she didn't seem happy I thought 100 was cheap and I should have charged more..she wants me twice a month, so today when I came she said how about you just do the upstairs today, so I did, the kids toys all over the floor got picked up and put away by me, I also made 1 bed, dusted from roof down to blinds. I said since your house is so big, why don't I one week do upstairs only and then the following week do the downstairs? when I was done upstarts she asked me to do her windows inside and out, so I did..and then she said here is 40.00 for today took me about 3 hours, come to find out we were in high school together, so I said we need more time to figure out a fare rate we both feel good with..so not next week but the following I plan to go do her downstairs..it has a huge kitchen all big tiles, breakfast nook, big dining room , living room all tile..then a laundry room, tiled and a bathroom and tub they keep puppy in, and there master bedroom and bathroom had a huge double tiled shower all glass..and a sunken tub kids use most, and double vanity sinks..then a wooden floor toddler bed and room area..so that is the house..its huge, and she has kids so its messy and 3 indoor outdoor dogs..lots of hair and finger prints to get up...she asked me if I charged by the hour or if I charged by the sq footage or what? I said I charge by the job and after I finish I usually know...how much..everyone wants something cheap and reasonable..so how should I charge this woman?? she is nice and helps while I'm there, also cleaning along with me..she had a lady do her place that drifted off, she said sometimes she would ask for special stuff like clean out fridge or something like that. I am willing to work with her...but I must figure out my pricing for people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! her house is huge and is time con consuming..so I would like to type up a special plan for her house..with more exact info..
for example I had one lady referred to me a lake house I cleaned for her twice she loved it I charged her 75.00 as well the last time she asked if I could change the beds..after I did 3 sets of bunk beds almost fell a few times and bumped My head..I wrote her a nice note saying, each set of bunk beds will be an additional charge of 5.00 per bed..that was my last summer cleaning, I'm sure when they use lake house again this summer she will call me..
so I know there has to be certain circumstances for each person..I am also a single mom raising my son and I work hard labor and deserve to be paid decent!! so thanks so much your opinion really matters to me..Sunni In Texas
Typically with the people i know who have done housecleaning charge by the hour typically $20 which is cheap..
It just snowed 9 inches at my house, and there was a white smooth clean slate behind my house, in the country. Last night i looked out my bathroom window, and there was very large foot prints that came from behind my garage, and came right up to my bathroom window. And i had taken a shower in there, and the blind broke on my window a few weeks ago. I think they were watching me take a shower! How do i catch them? And what do i do if they come back again tonight? (my dad and my brother are both gone and won't be back for a few more days, so.. it's just me and my mom)
Doesn't that make you happy? You are happy 8 days a week aren't you?
Just kidding, set bear traps right at the window, that will stop them and if they say anything, just tell the cops that you've had a problem with bears.

Perkins Braillers: An Overview
If you were creating a list of classic American products, which products would make your list? Coca-Cola? Ford Motors? Burma-Shave? McDonalds? Certainly each of these companies and their products have attained a unique position in popular culture.
Add the Perkins Brailler to the list.
The Perkins Brailler has helped generations of blind and visually impaired individuals express the contents of their hearts and minds. It's been the braillewriter of choice at schools and among transcribers. Though first introduced in 1951, surprisingly few modifications have been made to the Perkins Brailler: the machine you use today is virtually identical to a Perkins Brailler your parent or grand-parent could have used.
