Does anyone no if there are any hands-on knitting projects that a totally blind person can do?

I enjoy arts&crafts, and working with my hands. The only thing that seems to be wrong with working with my hands is that I am totally blind, and I was looking for a new hobby. My other hobbies are: listening to music, and reading.

Of course you can learn to knit -- you just need someone to teach you how. Ask for a referral at your LYS (local yarn shop). Or find a knitting group near you and ask if someone can teach you or recommend a teacher:

I need a hobby for a blind person with only one working arm?

My Mother-in-Law used to be very active in crafts, now since she is blind, she can't do them anymore, but would love to do something. She tried to learn braille, but says she can't do it. She has tried knitting and crocheting, but with only one functioning arm, its difficult for her to do. She needs to be doing something, instead of just sitting in her wheelchair, listening to the world go by. So any wise answers will be appreciated.

She needs a consultation with a rehab specialist or an occupational therapist. . She's probably entitled to one but doctors won't tell you because the insurance people discourage them from suggesting anything that could cost money. There are professionals out there with lists of things she can do, and all you have to do is step up and demand the services.
.

What are some good hobbies for a newly blind person to try?

I have a dear friend who has recently lost her sight and can no longer do the same hobbies she used to. She enjoyed reading, crosswords, crocheting and knitting, but is finding all of those too hard and frustrating now - even with large print books. Aside from books on tape, what else can you think of that I could suggest to her to try that might bring some enjoyment back to her life?

Thank you.

Your friend can still knit! If someone would take a look to check that her knitting is correct, help fix mistakes, or give direction, she could continue to knit. I had a friend that said her grandmother continued to knit after she was older and blind. The sweaters she turned out, and the granddaughter wore, were crazy colors but still wearable. Your friend could continue with scarfs because they have straight sides. Sometimes I knit in the dark and can continue because I feel the needle points and can feel around for the yarn placement.

What should I get my grandmother for Christmas?

My grandmother's in her mid-80's and nearly blind. She's been a housewife her whole life, and in the past has liked to cook and knit and sew, but is really limited anymore by her poor vision. I'm at a loss.

Oh, and PS: she's not very techonoligicaly advanced. They had a rotary phone until like 5 years ago, and doesn't even have a CD player, much less a computer.

Thanks in advance!!

For Christmas why don't you take her out to a hair saloon and get her hair done permed and color what ever she wants .. Get her nails painted up pretty ..

You could even buy her a pretty sweater if you want . I would say stay with the simple it works the best

    Knit Picks Magic Loop Tutorial

To start, place the ball of yarn for sock B on your left and the ball of yarn for sock A on your right. Keeping the balls of yarn far apart will make it easier to spot tangles quickly. I also have a method for keeping my strands of yarn from twisting around each other, which I will discuss later in the Tips section.

Make a slip not in each strand of yarn near the tail. You do not need a long tail to cast on.

Using the Turkish cast-on, cast on sock B as follows:

    1. Hold the tips of the needles, one on top of the other, in your left hand. The tips of the needles should be parallel and pointing to the right.

    2. Slide the slip knot for sock B over the bottom needle tip and onto the cable. Pull out the bottom needle tip to the right, so that the top needle tip is lying parallel to the cable.
