I was really exited to become a marine. I recently went to the mepps building to get my physical and found out I am profoundly color blind and cannot be an MP which i was terrible news. I have learned this extremely narrows your job options in the marines. I know the recruiters will make a boring job sound interesting but i wanted to get some outside perspective on any possibly interesting jobs for the color blind.
I didn't think you could enlist if you are colorblind? So many things are marked with color markings. I can't even imagine how you are going to make it through boot camp
Valdosta-Lowndes County Industrial Authority, VLCIA, Norman Bennett, Roy Copeland, Gary Minchew, Mary Gooding, Jerry Jennett, J. Stephen Gupton ...
My husband is getting out of the navy soon and wants to pursue school and a job in computers. Unfortunately he is red/green color blind. He is really down about it and says there isn't anything he can do. He doesn't think he has skills in anything else. Are there any computer jobs out there for color blind people? If so what are they? Also what are some other jobs that color blind people can do?
Technical positions seem to be suited for him.
Why would he be discouraged?
(I'm currently seperated from the Navy, 30% disabled and in the VA vocational rehab program. Everything is going fine.)
I just got home from my MEPS physical and was devastated to learn that I was only eligible for 4 coast guard jobs. I pretty much understand all the jobs I am eligible for except Public Affairs (PA) can anyone in the coast guard explain to me if PA rate is active duty or not? I was under the impression that the PA rate was only for reservists but my counselor today told me that PA's are active duty... I'm really confused and any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm not interested in the reserve and really want to be coast guard active duty. The PA rate would be great for me since I do have background in graphic design but only if its for active duty.
if they told you its for Active duty then you are fine to get it Active duty. they know what they are talking about, that is what they are there for.
My boyfriend is color blind, so when he was enlisting into the military it limited his jobs greatly; but then come to find out the branch he was joining changed their policy on forearm tattoos, and was disqualified. He is just REALLY frustrated right now b/c he feels like he is at a disadvantage b/c he is color blind, doesn't have very good eye sight and has forearm tattoos. Right now he is a manager at a restaurant but doesn't want to be in food service forever, but feels like there are no "good" jobs out there for him b/c of his eye sight, color blindness, and b/c of his tattoos (which to note are nothing bad/gang related or anything of that nature) So i'm asking for your help on what are some good jobs that people who are color blind can do? Any suggestions would be GREAT!! Thanks to all who answer!
Your boyfriend could be a novelist. Think of the money that JK Rowling made -- enough to be worth more than the Queen of England.
Can a color blind person apply for design jobs such as Piping Engineer, Structural Engineer etc.?
As far as I'm concern, the analysis results of FEA software such as Caesar II, ANSYS, Abaqus, Orcaflex, Flexcom are all color coded.
Therefore, I would like to know whether it is possible for a color blind person to take up these jobs?
I don't see why not. Changing the color preference in each of those programs shouldn't be too hard.
Besides when you say someone is color blind it doesn't mean they cant see all colors. They just have some level of difficult discerning between two color, (red/green or Blue/purple).
Living with Color Blindness
Color Blind Essentials series I would like to have a closer look at the every day life of a colorblind person and also at the impacts this vision handicap can have on your career choice.
Color blindness in everyday lifeMost people think traffic lights are one of the biggest issue for everyone suffering from a color vision deficiency, but they are wrong. The colors for traffic lights are very well chosen and they are always arranged in a certain order. So this is not a problem at all for most colorblind people even if some states don’t allow you to get a drivers license if you are colorblind.
But there are some real handicaps for people who are suffering from some moderate to strong color vision deficiency:
