Ask the school or read their handbook to find their specific policies.
I knkow with distance learning with Hadley School for the Blind, if a student does not turn in an assignment within a month’s time, the school contacts them to find out why. If they do not hear from the family or student w/in two months (one month after the assignment was due), the class is marked canceled, and the student gets no credit for the class. If a student has too many canceled or failed classes, they are dropped from the school. I do not know how it works for high school students who -must- take classes..that’s their policy for Adult Continuing Education (ACE). I would imagine that Social Services would be looking into why the student isn’t doing the assignments, and if the parents are at fault, then they would enforce it, and may look for a beter solution such as the student attending school at public school but doing distance learning under the watchful eye of the public school teacher or something…if there are special circumstances (such as a death in the family or medical problems) keeping the student from being able to do their work, I imagine that the school and Social Services would work with the family to suspend studies until the student is able to do school work again.
