I am considered disabled (although not wheelchair bound or blind) and my computer is over ten years old. And I am in need of a new one but can't afford it based on my income from Social Security. Are there any companies or organizations that can help me to obtain a new computer?
Sorry. Didn't mean to offend anyone. There must be some agency that can help? Please anyone. Thanks
Not in R.I. sorry. There are many states that do have programs.
BTW - NO ONE is wheelchair bound. Wheelchairs provide freedom and we are not bound to them. Some chair users can still walk, and even those who can't still transfer from their chairs to bed even if they require assistance. The term is very offensive.
I didn't cheat. (refer to in-game non-money map video I did later, here: www.youtube.com ) This is something any pro could do, (not to say I ...

My sister is blind and would like to know how to use a computer. I have trained her to memorize the keyboard and where all the numbers are. All I need is a program that speaks what's written on AIM, the internet, and emails and stuff like that. Anybody?
After giving a glimpse to my sources, and if they don't satisfy your needs, go to www.download.com and search for software with the keyword "text to speech"! A LOT of software to choose from!!!
Hello,
I was wondering if anybody knows a free/cheap program like ZoomText Magnifier/Reader. Somebody very close to me is legally blind and I would like to have a program on my computer so he can also use it.
The price online is ridiculous, 600$??? Also, if anybody knows about useful websites for the blind, programs in NY, anything...Please let me know. He is young, into sports, nature and trips. Thanks a lot.

All these are absolutely free
if you run windows xp, there is already built in software to do this for you, it's called magnifier and works like a magnifying glass:
start > programs > accessories > accessibility > magnifier
if you have a different version of windows it will still be there but not necessarily in the same folder as the one i pointed you to above.
when running it basically splits your screen into two, the bottom shows the screen as it is and the top shows a magnified version of whatever is under your mouse at the time - you can also change the magnification level to suit your eyesight and change how much of the screen shows the magnified section.

In the past when discussing different ways to potentially improve the patent system, I've pointed out that one of the key points in determining whether or not something is patent worthy is supposedly whether or not the invention would be "non-obvious" to a "person having ordinary skill in the art." And, yet, at no point in the patent review process does the average examiner -- who quite often does not have ordinary skill in the art -- ever go out and ask those who do. That always troubled me. So, I thought one (of quite a few) useful improvements to the system would be to let patent examiners call on certain folks who work in various fields. Now, this wouldn't be to have that person...
