Cats For The Blind

We just moved into a new house and a blind cat keep wondering up on our step. Seems like he's been homeless for a long time.
Also seemed pretty tame and friendly so we took him to the vet and had his eyes checked and a general checkup done.Definitely blind.
He is now named Seek and is sleeping in the sun on our couch!
Just wondering how it is he came to find us.

It seems to be 'lost' and bumps into things, and it doesn't react to close up movement, but I saw it chasing a bird and seeing off another cat from the garden, could she be long sighted only?

I was worried that it might be suffering, but she still seems happy when fed and purrs etc, so it seems a shame for her to be put to sleep.

I think the insides of her eyes have caved in, she's 14.

Awww, I think your cat is just old and like us things deteriorate with age. But go and have check up at the vet. They wont just put your cat to sleep cos their eyes are a bit dodgy. Good luck! xx

I love him dearly. I have a harness and we go for walks together but all my other cats hit him when ever he runs into them or even just walks by them. I feel so bad for him. what should I do? He is blind and I LOVE him so I don't want to take him to the vet because the last 2 times we took ours cats to the vet they put my cats down and I AM NOT DOING THAT AGAIN! So please help.
It has been a year or more.
We do not move anything and my cats still hit him.

I think it is so sweet that you didn't put your kitty down because he was blind. A lot of people would have put down there cats for smaller things just because they don't feel like dealing with it.

Since it has been a year and you seriously think your cats will never leave him alone or that he is miserable then you could always find new homes for your other cats or for your blind cat. Or you could keep the blind cat in a separate part of the house from the other cats. If you have a screened in or glass window porch then perhaps you could put the not blind kitties on the porch for most of the day so then your cat can get some time away from them so he doesn't spend 24 hours a day stressed.

Don't go to that vet anymore if they have put your cats to sleep without your permission.......
Get a kind hearted vet who doesn't resort to putting animals to sleep because of minor things.

what can i do for him or just let him live his life blind? he is still very healthy besides that

Well, walking into walls could be one sign of going blind. Another sign could be a change in eye color. The best thing to do, though, would be to take him to the vet to make sure it's blindness and not a neurological problem. If he is onlly blind, yet healthy... let him live his life. Blindness is not death.

geez ive been looking online FOREVER and theres so much trash online its almost impossible to find anything online. Im looking for pictures of a cats eye thats blind and a picture of a normal non blind cat.

Do the eyes look different? Is there a way to check and see if they are blind?

Our cat got run over by our car when my sister ran over him. He had surgery twice and he went blind and got his vision back. He has been taking several meds since from a vet and isnt allowed to walk for 5 weeks. Im worried cause tonight i noticed that his eyes aren't responding to light and we think its his meds causing him temporary blindness. Is there any ways to tell or can you find ANY pictures for me this is ridiculous..
Ill give you 10 points if you find me some pictures and or good info. It is much appreciated! :-)

By the way .. dont worry the cat is going to the vet tomorrow, but i just wanted to see for myself. We are all worried for this poor cat. Hes a fighter and has been through A LOT. Please pray for Meims.

I found you some pics and yes there is a difference in the cats eyes. Blind cats eyes turn almost white. You will see the diff in the pics. Sorry they are actually more like there is some sort of film over the eye. Like it is cloudy almost. Hope this helps. Plus if you think your cat may be blind take him to the vet and they can tell you for sure.
