Saturday Night Live, are we taking them too seriously?

During this year's elections, they had Tina Fey doing skits of Sarah Palin that most people accepted as fact. For example,"I can see Russia from my house." Conservatives took it as a joke, that's what it was. Now they joke about a blind man and the "politically correct" crowd starts whining.

(AP) The National Federation of the Blind says it considers NBC's "Saturday Night Live" skit making fun of New York Gov. David Paterson an attack on all blind Americans.

Federation spokesman Chris Danielsen says the portrayal on Saturday's television show suggesting Paterson as befuddled and disoriented because of his blindness is "absolutely wrong."

How serious do you take SNL?

The very old SNL, where John Belushi was the Samurai sword guy, and Bill Murray and Gilda played nerds, and Gilda played the girl scout, etc etc. Those were hysterical. Making so much fun of just one person, is not humorous. Bringing up Bill Clintons infidelities, Stumbling President Ford, Making George Bush look dumb, is not funny at all. I refuse to watch that show because it lacks taste. Bring back Mr Robinson's neighborhood, Wayne's World, Father Guido Sarduicci, The Church Lady, leave our Presidents alone. It is disrespectful.

all line up for golf!!!?

A priest, a minister, and a rabbi are playing a round of golf, and are getting really angry at the threesome in front of them, who are playing painfully slow, and refusing to let them play through. The men of God are screaming, cursing, and threatening the threesome from a distance, but it seems to do no good, so as soon as they get back to the clubhouse, they get the course manager against the wall, and read him the riot act.

"Goddam it, you stupid SOB, why don’t you do something about these assholes who play so slowly that they ruin everyone else’s day."

Gee guys, I’m really sorry, but it so happens that the three gentlemen in front of you are blind, and it takes them longer to play the course.

”Oh my God”, says the priest, “to think of the way I judged those poor disabled men; and me a leader of the church! I feel terrible”!
”I’ll tell you what I’m going to do... I’m going to donate 10 % of this Saturday’s bingo receipts to the American Federation of the Blind.

’Good Lord, I feel the same way’ says the minister,’ and me, a man of the cloth, acting and speaking the way I did to those unfortunate souls...I’ll tell you what, I’m going to give 20% of this weeks donations to the American Federation of the Blind’.

So everyone turns and looks at the Rabbi, who shrugs his shoulders and says, "So vy cant dey play at night?"

friggin funny that one thank u

Is requiring a photo ID to vote discriminatory? Consider this.?

According to the American Federation of the Blind black people have twice the rate of blindness as white people (for whatever reason--bad health care, etc.) Since blind people can't drive, obviously they don't have driver's licenses. It is also much more difficult for them to go someplace to get a photo ID. So, my argument is that the law in Indiana requiring photo id to vote is discriminatory toward black people, not to mention blind people. One solution: if such laws are on the books, the government must be responsible to go to anyone's house to take their photo if they are certified as being blind.
And while we're at it, it's discriminatory to paraplegics (who have similar problems) and who fall under the protected group "handicapped"

yes, discriminatory. and worse.

Americans with Disabilities - Can someone please help me understand this article?

I read this old article and I was wondering if someone can help me understand it?

The National Federation of the Blind filed a lawsuit against Target Corp.

Part of Article:

Even when pressed, the company stuck to a one-paragraph statement: "While disappointed the lawsuit was not entirely dismissed, Target is pleased with the court's decision to deny the plaintiffs' motion for a preliminary injunction. We believe our Web site complies with all applicable laws and are committed to vigorously defending this case. We will continue to implement technology that increases the usability of our Web site for all our guests, including those with disabilities ." [end]

What is a preliminary injunction?

Forcing Target to do something before the lawsuit is resolved.

  • Emily's Art News | Holiday sales plummet for Blind Recording ...

When Mary Sten-Clanton (Dorchester, Mass.) went online in September, she planned to visit CDBaby and purchase “Unconditional” by Lisa Ostrow. Mary had often used the site to sample and buy new releases from the indie recording artists who pay CDBaby to sell their music. This time, she could no longer listen to samples of the songs. Mary, who is blind, uses a “screen reader.” CDBaby was always accessible before. She decided to buy the CD anyway, but she couldn’t.

Mary’s e-mail to CDBaby went unanswered. She recently returned to the site, but the problems had not been fixed.

“I always find it particularly frustrating, and even hurtful,” Mary says, “when a company whose Web site has always been perfectly accessible suddenly takes that access away.”
