I guess im going bilnd, my eye doctor not only said I cant get lasik now, but my vision is getting worse every year, now im at a -8.50 in both eyes. Are there any programs that will help me learn braille for free?
Unless you have a disased eye, there is no reason to go blind just from having a high prescription.
I have patients wearing - 18.00 and - 20.00 , and they aren't blind.
If you still have good vision with your glasses or contacts, there is no reason to believe you are going blind.
But with high myopia like you have, you should be checked often for signs of retinal problems.
You most likely see your eye Dr. every year or two, and that is something he surely checks for.
I don't know where you can get courses in braille, but you have lots of time to check it out...learning something new is always good, even when it will probably never be needed.
Grade 1 Braille (now called Uncontracted Braille). Braille revolutionized life for the vision impaired. Discover how this remarkable system works ...
I want to learn to read Braille so well I can read an entire Braille book. Where can I learn to do this, where can I find the supplies to learn, what should I get to begin learning, and where can I find a Braille book? Do NOT tell me eBay. I checked.
Braille is composed of six cells (dots). To get books that are in both braille and print one of my favorite (and cheepest) sources is seedlings Braille books for chilldron. Their novels cost about 20 bucks, wile the braille and print books cost around 7 bucks. They are a non-prophet organization located in Farmington hills Michigan. Their phone number is 1-800-777-8552 and their website is http://seedlings.org/
They have a catalog on their website. Learning braille is like learning print. Print is composed of an arangement (combination) of lines, wile braille is composed of a combination of dots arranged in a certain way.
Hear is a link that shows you the combination of dots used to make each letter http://www.afb.org/braillebug/braille_pr int.asp
On the brailler (machine that writes in braille) their are 9 keys. Starting from the far left is the enter key (for a new line) dot 3, dot 2, dot 1, the space bar, dot 4, dot 5, dot 6, and the key witch moves the cursur back one place.
I know it seems to much, but it is easy, and you will get the hang of it. Have fun, and good luck.

About how long does it take for an adult (30 years old) to learn to read Braille if she didn't lose her sight until adulthood?
I don't know. I'm learning sign right now but I commend you for asking. If you're trying to help a friend that is.
I thought it would be cool to learn about it and to tell people that i actually know how to wright and read braille!
Personally, I think it'd be cooler to be able to use grammar correctly.
Braille essentially uses a system of bumps that correlate to numbers and letters. You'd have to be able to print off those bumps to know braille correctly.
You could just google the Braille alphabet and terms and print off those symbols. I think that would likely be easiest.
My doctor told me that my lens prescription is now at a -8.50 in both eyes. Is this the begginings of blindness? If so, are there any approaches I can take to learn braille quickly?
Did the doctor tell you that it's the beginning of blindness? It certainly doesn't have to be. If you can wear glasses or contacts and see 20/30, that's no problem. Has it become worse and worse over the years?
We can't tell you if you're going blind. You have to be examined by an ophthalmologist. That's a real doctor. (MD.) Optometrists know a lot, but they are not MD's. You have to ask your eye doctor all these questions.
You might want to ask this question again under "Optical." It's also under "Health." Keep the question open till you get an answer from a real eye doctor.
Bless you and good luck! I think you're panicking, unless a doctor told you that you're going blind. Then you'd want to go to a book store, and buy the book like "Learning Braille." :)

Everything I need to know I learned from Daredevil comics ...
I first got into Daredevil around the time I first got into comics. My very first comic books came from a dollar box at the back of a used bookshop (which, incidentally, is why Rae’s secret origin involves one). I would buy as many as I could afford and smuggle them home under my windbreaker so my mom wouldn’t know her honor-roll student had regressed to reading stuff with pictures. At first I bought mostly heroes I knew from cartoons—Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, Batman, and the like. But Daredevil was the one that stuck. I ignored the yellowed comics with the guy in the red devil suit until I saw an episode of the Fantastic Four cartoon where they lost their powers...
