How many different Braille symbols are possible? How many symbols are possible with no raised dots? With 6?
Two kids at a board

Braille uses arrangements of raised dots to form symbols that represent letters, numbers, and punctuation marks. Braille is read by touching the symbols. Each symbol is a cell of 6 dots arranged in 3 rows of 2. In the cell, certain dots are raised to make a particular symbol.

A dot can be raised or not raised, similar to a coin flip (heads or tails).

2^6 or 64 possible symbols.

There's only 1 possible symbol for no raised dots, or all raised.

Braille question: Doesn't it take a really long time to read ?

Does Braille have word "symbols" or are they all letters? If they were all letters, wouldn't it take a very long time to read a passage by just feeling?

This is a really random question, but it popped up in my mind today when I saw a picture of a girl "reading" Braille.

Thanks,

Beginning braille is an alphabet identical to our alphabet with a symbol for each letter. That is considered Grade 1 braille. As you advance and move through the other Grades there are symbols and abbreviations for some words, which makes it quicker to read.

It pains me to admit that I’ve never actually solved a Rubik’s Cube. Granted, it’s been years since I last tried, but I still feel disappointed nonetheless. One question that plagued me for some time was whether or not a colorblind person could solve the puzzle. Of course I later discover that I myself am at least partially colorblind, Since I can see the differences in the colors, I’m not too worried. Of course, for those that can see nothing at all, the game has little actual meaning. Thankfully one designer has decided to craft a cube which is playable even by the blind.
