Why do ATM's have braille period. As if the blind can read the screen prompts to know what to press & when?

Plus.... it's not like they can visually verify the amount of cash they recieved to make sure its correct!

That is a good second Q - Why WOULD a blind person be in the drivers seat to be accessing the Drive up ATM? LOL!

How is braille helpful on ATM buttons if you can't see the options on the screen?

Each ATM I use has a different screen layout, and of course, no audio, so how is a blind person to determine which of the screen buttons to press?

That is what the Braille is for. I did always wonder why they put Braille on a drive up ATM though.

If a blind person drove up to the atm to get money how would they know which button to press?
A Logo for National Braille Press?

there's braille on the buttons but they wouldn't be able to see the screen to figure out which button they should press

My wife doesn't drive, but she does use the walk-up ATM. The walk-up ones are the same as the drive-up ones. Cuts down on production and maintenance costs.
As to the "which button to press" question........next time you are at an ATM, look for the little plug in port for a set of compact headphones. A blind user will plug their headphones (my wife carries a set of ear buds) into the jack, and an automated voice prompts them in the ATM usage. The Braille instructions on the ATM inform those who can read Braille where the headphone jack is located on the machine. Simple! Easy! Efficient!
Many PIN pads in major market retail stores also have an audio option jack for plugging in ones personal headphones as well.
