Braille Money

Hello everyone. I'm looking for a part time gig where I can make some extra money. I heard that you can make money transcribing braille on your own time. Does anyone transcribe braille for a living or do it part time? Or does anyone know anyone else that does it? I would appreciate info from anyone that knows. Thanks!

how do blind people know what bill is what? wouldn't that help them out?

That is a very good question!!!!! No braille on money but there is braille on a drive up ATM !?!?!?

European money has diffrent sizes for different amounts and even braille on their currency. Aren't we behind in the times?Blind need to see their money too.

I know, I used to work in foreign exchange. I thought Netherlands money was so cool because it was not only different sizes for different denominations, but also different colors and it had different amounts of raised dots. How easy for the visually impaired!

It would be easy just to stamp the bills when they come off the press so that blind ppl dont have to worry about getting scammed. I have had this idea for about 10 years but it was always one of those things I would only remember after sparking up a fatty.

the US is pretty slow to adopt anything new - just look at how long it took to even issue federal notes - currency - the original paper money as we know it was in the form of bank drafts - not federally issued currency.

That said, there are difficulties - that other countries have overcome but the US has not adopted yet - concerning color, size, and braille.

OK the main sticking point is with something called the crush test - that is when we take a new bill and crush it into a ball and then flatten it out. Will the braille stand up to that or will it get mashed in the process.

We could put tiny little holes in a pattern to represent amounts - but those die-cuts could easily weaken the bill - and therefore cause it to deteriorate faster.

But by and large, other countries have overcome these problems for the most part. just remember, the US is slow to adopt anything new.
