This lady was considered legally blind and has recently recieved he sight again. She was trained in braille but wishes to read and write, and use the computer.
She can get a tutor. Public libraries often offer tutors for such things. So do public schools. It satisfies the "community service" requirements for some high schoolers. Then, once she learns to read, she must read, read, read for an education. That's how Abraham Lincoln got an education. He had very, very little formal schooling. Most all of his education was self-taught through the power of reading. And she mustn't read smut books. She should read classic, whole books, like Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's "Sherlock Holmes" books, "LIttle Women" by Louisa May Alcott, and "Treasure Island" by Robert Louis Stevenson. She can read biographies of historic figures or historical fiction. She can read her Bible (poetry, history, heroes, villians, and a fantastic ending!). But the key is to READ.
Blessings!

Does anyone know? I am considering it as a career choice as I love kids and am well versed in braille.
Southwest TX State University in San Marcos TX has an excellant Special Education program. SWTSU is not Texas State University.
I plan on getting a degree in special education but I would like to focus on teaching the deaf and/or blind.....I can find all kinds of sign language courses at my local colleges but I can't find anything that will help me to learn braille. Any suggestions?
There are special academic programs for teaching blind children at the undergraduate and graduate level. The two I happen to be familiar with are at Vanderbilt and U of L

Just learning braille doesn't fully qualify you.
My eyes are doing strange things. I have a book that explains the rules of Braille but I think I would need it explained to me so I learn it better. But if I had a video teach me how then their explanations would teach me better than trying to figure it out on my own. I hope I have explained it well enough... I put a similar question under Special Education because I don't know where to best put my Question...
you need to train your fingers to be able to read the bumps. Computers can't do that.
Research two devices and associated teaching practices that can aid students with sensory impairments in the classroom. One of the devices should assist with hearing impairments and one with visual impairments. Some examples include the following: hearing aids, computer assisted real-time transcription (CART), video magnifiers/closed-circuit televisions (CCTV), Braille embossers, and alternate format materials.
• Explain the following for each device in a total of 350 to 500 words:
o How is the assistive device used in the classroom to help students with sensory impairments reach their full academic potential?
o What type of student benefits from using the device? Include information about the characteristics and classification of the student.
o How much additional information absorption can be expected with use of the device?
o How can effective practices, used in conjunction with the device, provide added benefits? Be specific.
Bliss is usually attained after hard work,no?
