I'm searching for a children's book I read as a child. I remember it was 1991 and I had the book and book on tape, so I know it's been released on audio.
The book is about animals swimming in a pool or watering hole. The front cover has a picture of an elephant diving into a pool/watering hole.
Any help would be great.
the only one i could think of is the saggy baggy elephant and horton hears a who. but having looked at the cover on amazon. i don't think that's it! sorry :o(

What a great read! Water for Elephants has been lauded as a pick ‘great for the summer, but this book is much more. Has a depth and a substance commonly found in the typical “beach read.” It is clear that the author has done his research in the period of time (post-Depression America), and the subject matter (traveling circuses). According to the authors at the end of the book notes, many interesting anecdotes from history is based on real events, selected from the diaries and personal histories of old time circus. As a result, water for elephants a novel that has the rare combination of both entertaining and instructive.
The main character is a cantankerous, still-strong 93 years old, and his frustration at being trapped in the body of an old man is palpable. The incredible story of his life and adventures with gasoline Brothers Circus takes place in a way that is heart-rending emotional, and yet flashes of good humor pervades everything. The characters are richly developed, and even the animals have complex personalities them an essential part of history. There is something for everyone in the novel: it is equal parts adventure, mystery, memories of fantasy, romance and historical account.
