This is JRR Tolkien's 'The Hobbit'. A classic on so many levels methinks^_^ This reading of the book by Nicol Williamson is an ...
I have a long drive to work and I have come to love audio books.
I started my audio book journey with great books but they where read in a dry matter. I then found the Harry potter series on audio I enjoyed the reader so much that I have now been listening nonstop to long series books on my way to work. So i want to now if anyone has suggestions on audio books that not only are a great book but are read in a pleasing way. like the harry potter and the Wheel of Time series.
here is a list of others i have listened to and enjoyed.
Harry Potter
DragonLance
Wheel of time
Lord of the rings (the hobbit)
Narnia
Sword of truth (terry goodkind)
mistborn (Sanderson)
inheritance cycle (Christopher Paolina)
You might try the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett. I've only read the text version, but those are great, and my friends who have the audiobooks have enjoyed them.
Although David Sedaris is more off-the-wall dry humor than fantasy, I've really enjoyed his readings of his books.
I'm trying to find books like
The Hobbit
Harry Potter
and more online as audio but i'm having no luck. i just want something [a slideshow, person, anything] with it reading the book. any help please?! and i don't want to pay for it. thank you very much♥
check out my past questions too :)
I don't know any websites that offer free audiobooks. You might want to check out your local library - they might even let you borrow some!
On YouTube I found audio clips of J.R.R. Tolkien reading a chapter of The Hobbit and The Two Towers. Does anyone know if Tolkien recorded himself reading the whole Hobbit and Lord of the Rings books? If so could you tell me where I might find them? I looked on amazon, but if anyone finds it can I get a link?
Thanks so much!
Actually Tolkien died in 1973, they DID have audio recordings at that time, I have heard little snippets of his, and even seen video interviews. After all they've been making movies since around the 30's or before!!!!
I just want to hear MORE of Tolkien. If you do not know the answer please refrain from answering!!!! (This is a response to my first answerer, who appears to not know very much)
Sadly, Professor Tolkien only recorded relatively few portions of his work. All were made at his home, using a portable tape recorder brought by a friend. The chapters from The Hobbit and The Two Towers were the longest portions, but he also recorded some of the poetry from not only The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, but The Adventures of Tom Bombadill (a slim volume of poetry).
As far as I know, all of these recordings were eventually released on records, cassettes and, I believe, a set of CDs, although all are now very hard to find.
LOTR looked great and still does. But my question is;- will it look dated in a few years time? Or will the production still hold into the future.
I suppose this is a pretty random question but i think its relevant cos a lot of films from the early 90s look dated now which were once considered cutting edge. cheers thanks for reading. I love the films and books tho.
To prove my official LOTR geekdom(!) I own the following
1. Antiqued parchement map of Middleearth as seen in the film on Bilbos desk. (£7 bargain from Musiczone leeds)
2. LOTR 7 book boxset (books+appendices) (another bargain from a cheap bookstore in york)
3 The One Ring Replica 24kt gold (ebay)
4. Dragon with Nazgul Rider figurine
5. Minas Tirrith Model (spectacular!)
6. LOTR Chess set (still collecting)
7. A Hobbit currency coin (!) (ebay!!)
8. LOTR Top trumps (special box trilogy version)
9. The Hobbit special version with map, postcards, and audio recording of Tolkien reading the riddle of Gollum
oh yeah to be totally pedantic i have the boxset extended dvd versions of the films and unfinished tales. so there.
I think it will hold as looking great! Any more animated or green/blue screened and it would look just too fake. Other than that I don't see another film in its genre looking better. Look at Narnia, it was too animated looking. I don't think it will be out dated for a while at least!

@Bman what the hell are you talking about??? Bakshi's work is some of the best animation EVER done!!! Disney is the only other thing that I think can hold up next to Bakshi. the only reason THEY are considered the standard is cause they are mainstream, Bakshi was always underground. check out Fire and Ice some time, or The Nine Lives of Fritz The Cat. in my opinion I think his best work is actuaily in a VERY little known movie called American Pop. it really was the best exapmle I think of what Bakshi was all about. it was animated, but it was a REAL dramatic story that fallows 4 geniration of one family from WW1 Russia to 1980's U.S. and how in some way or another they all had something to do...
