I'm doing a book case study over service marketing. In the case, it says that a company is considering moving from a cost center to a P&L center. Is that supposed to be short for profit/loss?
P&L is always Profit and Loss. A cost center isn't required to make a profit, it just adds to the cost of running the business. The management is graded on factors such as productivity or how well they meet production and quality goals rather than on P&L. Changing to a profit center (the preferred term) works only if the management has control over both output and input. Example: in making widgets, the manufacturing group has no control over sales. They may be able to control how much they pay for materials, labor costs, inventory, inventory holding costs, but they can't actually sell them. This makes them better as a Cost Center. On the other hand, an individual store is a profit center. They control sales and enough of the costs to impact P&L.

Whether you like Ron Paul or not, you should be asking yourselves--"WHY DOES GLENN BECK HAVE SECRET SERVICE AT A BOOK SIGNING EVENT!" He just signed a 50 million deal at CNN can't he afford to hire his own security instead of using our tax dollars to protect this slim ball. I am sure his book is another islamaphobic book. "We Are Change" confronted him about his slanderous remarks about Ron Paul and his supporters being supporters of terrorists. How can he talk about democracy and how "they hate us" and about how Muslims and anti- war activist should be locked up. How about the first amendment? Why does anyone even listen to him? He sounds so uneducated and out of touch with the people and the issues. Why would government agents guard him if he is not working for them?

I live in Las Vegas, NV, and I just recently read 4 Hour Work Week. It's a great books and it talks about saving time by outsourcing parts of your life to focus on what really matters. Inspired from that book, I wanted to know, besides the company the author lists in the book, if there were better companies that I can look at.
If you live in Las Vegas, you may want to look at http://www.convenian.com. Convenian is not as deep as "Personal Assistant," but it also doesn't charge you any money for their services.
If you are looking to see how your life would look with a little bit of outsourcing, I'd highly recommend Convenian. On their website, you can order services like dry cleaning pick up and delivery, house cleaning, pet grooming, pet waste removal, transportation, etc. You can also request Convenian to make reservations at restaurants and such.
If you become a member (and I don't understand why, but there is no membership fee), you get other discounts and benefits...
Check it out.

I am 25 and planning on talking to a Coast Guard or Navy recruiter. I am very concerned about the GI Bill and how to get the best type of job while in the service. I am also considering the reserves too.
I need to know:
How its determined which job you can have?
Are there any good books or online resources to help?
How and what to study for any type of standardized tests?
Will my age be a problem?
Where to start?
Looks like you got plenty of good advice here! Some thing that has never changed over the years is this....Your local recruiter and the recruiter you will see at sign up both have quotas to fill, so stick to your guns and get the job you want, don't settle to verbal agreements. if your smart the military is still a good career move or good chance to better your education. Good luck in whatever you do!

Digital Talking Book Internet Service Delivers One Millionth ...
On Feb. 21, 2010, Tonia Gatton downloaded the digital talking book version of "Charlotte’s Web" to her computer. Gatton’s selection marked the one millionth download of reading material delivered by the Braille and Audio Reading Download (BARD) service, a new initiative from the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (NLS), Library of Congress. Formally launched on April 30, 2009, BARD has gained popularity. Today approximately 15,000 of NLS’s patrons are registered for access. The DAISY Consortium member NLS administers the free program loaning materials to residents of the United States and citizens living abroad who are unable to read or use standard print materials because of visual or physical handicap. The 121 network libraries throughout the United States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Virgin Islands, provide direct service to eligible individuals and institutions. Eligible American citizens living abroad are also able to participate in the NLS program. For more information, visit the Library of Congress website .
