The Seeing Beyond Low Vision Support Group gets a look at the new NLS Talking Book Machine in Virginia Beach Va.
I've heard of a machine that allows a person to scan a book into a computer and then later search text using "control f". From what I heard it is necessary to cut the binding of the book. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?
If you have the money, $10,000+, you can get a book scanner that will allow you to scan without cutting the spine. These scanners allow you to open the book; lay it flat facing up; and then scan (takes a picture, convert it to digital image and compensates for curvature, etc.).
Otherwise, a flatbed scanner with a large surface (like the Fujitsu fi-5750c (or similar) would be a good choice for large documents (11X17).
If all you want to do is to be able to index the book to make is searchable, you'll need to "capture" the text. You can use the Adobe Acrobat (full version) bundled with the Fujitsu to "capture" the text rendering it searchable.
If you want to be able to edit, then you'll need an OCR program to convert the scanned text into editable text. You can get a cheap/free OCR program at www.brothersoft.com (search for OCR).
In 8th grade, my teacher had us read this book, a pretty small book that helped us remember the order of the presidents. And it was funny. It only had a sentence or two on each page. I remember George Washington's page had a sentence about a washing machine and a ton or something along those lines... Does anyone know what book I am talking about? If so, do you remember what it is called?
Thanks.

First think then ask.I am sorry for this question because this is related with the machine of talking with out thinking and no any one cant be able till this time to "under stand the women".
It's called thetiniest bible. It's only the size of an earring. There are only 12 copies in the world.
I mean, I could go on for a long time about my new sewing machine or a book I'm reading or if they really wanted to talk about people, I could talk about them to them or about me to them. But most neurotypicals seem to prefer badmouthing others in ways they won't tell the person to their face. Why is that? There must be something I am missing about this phenomonon. I have learned not to say much around people who do that coz I think I will bore them with what I'd talk about.
In this case, I am different. I'm sorry you cannot know me to see this. Perhaps you think my bluntness is the same as badmouthing. It isn't. I don't care to be "right." I am not looking for a "right" answer. I am looking for other's thoughts on it.
NT's on average (or TYPICALLY) have low self-esteem and the only way to raise their self worth is by tearing it out of other people. This is a learned behavior from their parents, peers, sibilings, elders, etc. The inability to see over this behavior is to first acknowledge why they are doing it, then to cease the behavior. When someone starts doing this in my presence, I simply ask "So what's your real beef with this person? Are you too chicken to bring it up to them so you have to taint my view of them?"
Usually stuns them into silence or another topic.
