I have to do an assignment where I identify literary devices from the book The Secret Life of Bees. I need an example of a literary device that represents racism in the south at that time (1960s) so I was wondering if this quote would do. It's when Rosaleen and Lily are in the white church together (Rosaleen is black):
"We love them in the lord, Brother Gerald had said, but they had their own places."
He is talking about black people and how he doesn't want them in the church. Is that a literary device?
I'm pretty sure it isn't.
A common literary device is this one, I've found at least one in every book I read:
Allegory - an object that is a symbol of something else

I'm looking for the name of an old toy/tape player I used to have... We are talking 1984-85ish.
Ok, It was this "choose your own adventure" tape player device. Each tape you purchased would come with a book.
The story would give you choices on what to do/where to go next. Each choice would be color coded and there were 4-5 large colored buttons on the tape player that you could press to take the story in a different direction. I remember having a story about a girl investigating a "haunted house" because her friends had gone missing in the area.
Yes! It was a big thing. like not the size of a radio. It did also have a place to store your books and tapes.
im only 12 but the name was 'The Melloeman- DIY Mellotron

Hi,
does anyone know if there are any mains adaptors that power more than one device?
I have that many devices connected to my computer that are powered by seperate mains adaptors and I was wondering if I can get a device that can power them all?
Surely there must be such a device? The seperate adaptors must be wasting alot of electricity.

More and more states are putting laws on the books that will result in hefty fines if a person is found to be talking on a cell phone. Some laws allow for the use of "hands free devices" that let a person talk on the phone while both hands are on the wheel. However a new study shows that even hands free conversations are dangerous...so my queston: is a converstation with a person in the car dangerous too? Should talking be outlawed too?
what do you say?
Bring up a good point...if you can't talk on a hand's free set, should you not talk to any passengers in the car either? Only thing is, sometimes phone calls are more urgent and draw your attention more than casual talk in the car. But then again, you never know if someone is going to get into a heated argument with their passenger while driving. I think they should just leave it at being lawful to talk on handsfree devices because at least then, you're concentrating more on driving with your hands and less on fumbling with the cell phone.

Survey: Many Buyers Plan to Use Apple iPad as E-Reader | John ...
An interesting data point from the first of many Monday morning analyst notes on the iPad’s weekend launch. Piper Jaffray’s Gene Munster surveyed 448 iPad buyers Saturday, asking about the size of the device they were purchasing and their reasons for doing so, and found that 13 percent owned a Kindle.
Of those, 58 percent said the iPad would replace Amazon’s (AMZN) device as their e-book reader.
And of the survey’s total respondents, 10 percent said they had considered buying a Kindle, but opted for an iPad instead. And 38 percent said they intended to read books on Apple’s (AAPL) new device (survey results below; click to enlarge).
