I can't decide between 'Innervisions' and 'Talking Book', but I know 'Songs In The Key Of Life' is a popular choice.
Innervisions. But that whole chunk of them he did (from Music of My Mind to Songs in the Key) is maybe the greatest back-to-back series of albums ANYBODY ever came out with. Talking Book (besides the two hits) has "Maybe Your Baby," an alltime footstomping classic. And Songs (even though it's a bit preachy in places) has (in addition to the hits) the beautiful "Knocks Me Off My Feet" and "Joy Inside My Tears."
1972 - Talking Book
I only really know "Talking Book", "Innervisions", and "Songs In The Key Of Life"...Any suggestions would be welcome
The three recordings to which you allude are indeed classic; I would add the recording that he made between "Inner Visions" and "Songs in the Key of Life": "Fulfillingness' First Finale", which includes the hit "Boogie on, Reggae Woman", the anti-Nixon paean "You Haven't Done Nothin'", and the oft-covered classic "Creepin'".
since I asked a few weeks back what albums to check out I have bought
songs in the key of life
the definitive collection
talking book
innervisions
I would like to know the album "characters" is worth getting as I heard it has a duet with mj,(not sure the name of the song)
Does he have any good live dvd's?
Morning Colin!
I am not a massive fan of Stevie Wonder, but I have heard enough of him to feel that you probably already have the best of his output with those 4 Albums. "Characters" I have not actually listened to in it's entirety, but here is a review from Rolling Stone which you may find interesting.

The Duet is called "Get It", and tbh, it sounds like a MJ track, and a poor one at that!

I've loved him for going on 40 years. I have all his albums, including Talking Book, Innervisions, Hotter Than July and right up to A time to Love. I also saw him perform live, at the Birmingham NEC in the 80s and he was stunning. I listen to his music every day and will almost certainly have his music on my last journey, when I depart this mortal coil!!!!
I used to love hearing "I just called to say I love you" by Stevie Wonder. His music is great. You may be his greatest fan. Do you have his boxed set called "At the Close of a Century"? If you do, you're right up there with his best fans of all time.
Not "festivals"/ Not all-day gigs... Just your basic concert with one opening act and one headliner.
I must be hanging in the way-back machine today... because I'm going to name Stevie Wonder as the opening act, and the Rolling Stones as the headliner. My high school boyfriend took me for my 16th birthday :-) in May, 1972 ~
The Stones' "Sticky Fingers" had been out for one year, and the then 'bad boys of rock' started their set with Brown Sugar ~ tres risque! And just for a little more "era" perspective, Tumbling Dice ~ was brand new.
"Talking Book" would be coming out six months later, taking Stevie Wonder into the stratosphere.....
I believe I've asked this question before.... lol
What can I say? I've got limited interests ;-)
No, Glen G ~ I'm from Denver.
I saw A Perfect Circle and Nine Inch Nails. It made me very, very happy. * sigh* Maynard and Trent... Epic!
But I also saw Gnr And Skid Row... tthat Axl was one hell of a showman. When he is on , he's on. It was a great show!
Hard call.

Psshhh.... I do that too.... :P

Rckets, MM and Courtney Love... what were they thinking? it made for nice Drama though. I would love to have seen that tour. ( I love Hole) Bizarre line up.

Amoeblog > 2009-02 > Talking Book - Just One of Stevie Wonder's ...
Over the years my favorite track has changed bunches of times, but since college I have predominantly played side 2, skipping "Superstition," which kicks it off (killer track, just heard it enough times, plus its mood feels different from the rest of the side), and going straight from "Big Brother" to the end. The four songs that close side 2 of Throughout this album, which Stevie largely wrote, produced and played all the instruments on, he touches on
unscrupulous politics and the possibility of everlasting love with salient clarity. He sheds light on the daily lives of those living...
