I recently downloaded the audio book "Star Wars: Courtship of Princess Leia" from iTunes and saw that it was abridged.
Looking at the rest of the audio books on iTunes I saw that all of the star wars books are abridged.
Why is that?
Many audio books, not just Star Wars audio books, are released in an abridged format to condense material to a suitable length.
Novels are supposed to be read silently to oneself, which is generally faster than reading aloud. To release a complete version of the novel in audio form would likely last over 20 hours and therefore be very expensive to both the publisher to produce and the consumer to purchase, so instead the publisher will remove anything from small references to entire scenes which are considered superfluous, i.e. they do not move the story along.
This is a PREVIEW ONLY that can be found for free on any site that sells the whole book. Owned by Random House Audio. I in no way own any part ...
I asked this question before and got an answer with a lot of links but none had any so I'm gonna ask again lol

star wars legacy of the force Invincible (book 9) by Troy Denning
http://www.amazon.com
The 299 page book is available at Amazon in new and used copies for $14.99, because it's a hardcover, published May 13, '08. There is also an "Import" with a similar title but a bit mixed up, for more money, also a hardcover, to be out June 5, '08.
No downloads possible here.

No downloads here. No books available yet, but this site offers a pre-order of "...final chapter of the nine-book Legacy of the Force series..." with autographed bookplate for $26.99.

The book is here as well but no downloads. Besides a 299 pg. book published May '08 for $17.01 (for members, $18 + otherwise) there is only a CD.

*From Random House* (the publisher of this book) I finally find a list of ebook retailers for this title.
Still, you have to follow the link above, go to sci-fi, enter title and author, click on the title and see, in a gray band beneath the book, 'Available in audiobook and ebook.'
From there you must click on 'ebook,' and you'll see a fairly long list where the book is available as an ebook, under the larger word: 'Retailers.'
The first one, BooksonBoard.com (where you may be able to go directly through the link below to find your book), offers it in four ebook forms (check the small icons below the book) for an apparent price of $16.35. No other fees required.

I advise you to use stay on Random House's list of ebook retailers, and use your back arrow to check on others if you like.
Good luck.
I know there is a bunch of Star Wars Books out there and I was wondering if I could just start in and listen to the Fate of a Jedi books. I'm a mower and like to listen to audio books while mowing. Most of the books are in abridged form (a condensed version of the the book). The Fate series, the Movie books, and a few are in unabridged form (the book read strait from the pages) which I prefer
Well considering that the Fate of the Jedi series is set about 45 years after the events of ep VI ... I think you would be beyond lost in respect to the story line. Off hand I'd say that the only characters that you'll know about are Han, Luke, Leia, Lando, Wedge ... and that's about it. Any other characters you know from the movies have died in the 70 + books that are in the story line before the Fate Of The Jedi series. Personally I've read just about every one of the books that has come out over the years so I fancy myself a Star Wars EU (Expanded Universe of books) Guru and reading the Fate of the Jedi series has sent me back to my book shelve to the older books to "refresh" my memory and even that doesn't work sometimes with this new series.
On the other hand, since you don't have the knowledge from those books it might not matter and you'll understand the Fate Of The Jedi series better ... I have to say that I highly doubt it but who knows.
As for the audio books ... I absolutely HATE the "abridged" versions ... they are a slap in the face to the author and tend to leave out a ton of info that would make the story easier to understand. As you say, the unabridged versions are hard to find and usually don't exist.
I would suggest you look for the books of the Thrawn Trilogy to listen to. The titles are "Heir To The Empire", "Dark Force Rising", and "The Last Command". These books were written by Hugo Award winning author Timothy Zahn and are brilliantly written. They are set 5 years after the events of ep VI and are where the books really started.
I've found a few audio books on the p2p sites but they are "at your own risk" things with all the trash that can be found on the p2p sites.

At the time, I had no idea what he was talking about, but I was very excited at the chance to write a professional novella for a licensed property. I had previously written a professional comic book story for Star Wars licensee Dark Horse Comics in the form of Equals and Opposites in Star Wars Tales #21 (and later in Star Wars Tales Volume 6 and included as part of a Hasbro comic pack). I had also previously self-published my own original novella (Echoes) in 2006 and a novel (Greater Good) only a few months before in August 2009. I had never, though, written a prose story in a professional, work-for-hire sense. With a target length of between 30,000 and 35,000 words, the novella was meant to...
