Try these (most of them can be found at Recordedbooks.com or Amazon.com):
Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card
Berserker by Fred Saberhagen
Battlefield Earth by L. Ron Hubbard (the movie was horrible, but the books is a lot of fun)
Doomsday Book by Connie Willis (this is an incredible time travel story)
Invasion of the Body Snatchers by Jack Finney (classic sci-fi thriller)
Time and Again by Jack Finney (another great time travel novel, with incredible attention to detail--a great mystery story, too)
At their peak, over thirty million Americans read pulp fiction stories and novels every month. These readers shared a passion for adventure that ...
I travel a lot and plan to start to listen to audio-books. I love science fiction films but never really explored the written genre.
Now that I have a chance to delve into sci-fi novels I find that I cannot find a decent list of the best sci-fi novels available on audio-book.
Can you help?
It depends on what type of science fiction you like, in part. I can tell you that Kim Stanley Robinson's Mars books are on audio (Red Mars, Green Mars, Blue Mars) as are Orson Scott Card's Ender books and Connie Willis' wonderful Doomsday Book. . . whether available at this second in time, I don't know; they were at my library.
Recorded Books has a list of what they have available now:
http://www.recordedbooks.com/index.cfm?f useaction=rb.show_genre&gen_id=321
BTW, Recorded Books does have Joe Haldeman's Forever War and I saw a Connie Willis listed as available now.
Audio books are a little harder to list like this because they become unavailable in ways print books don't. For example, I listened to Willis' book on tape. I don't know if it's still available as an audio download or on cd. Contracts with authors sometimes specified the exact format the publisher could use, and when formats changed, the publisher may not have had the rights to the book as a cd, for example.
Another problem is that SF as a genre isn't as widely popular as, say, mysteries or inspirational fiction. (No flames, please; I speak not judgmentally but as one who has looked at offerings from Recorded Books, Books on Tape, BBC audio, etc. and found fewer titles in that genre; also if you check out their standing order plans, you'll see they offer mystery, inspirational, non-fiction, Christian, teen, children's, African American, Southern, etc. but not SF-- or at least not the last time I checked.) I'm not putting down SF as a genre. The people who love it are devoted but it doesn't seem to cross over as easily to mainstream as, say, mysteries.
Plus the line between SF and Fantasy is a bit blurry sometimes. . . more than a bit. Right now fantasy is a bigger seller so you'll see more Fantasy listed as science fiction-- Piers Anthony I think of as more fantasy, for example, and Robert Jordan. Anyway, there aren't as many SF books on audio as some other genres-- unless you want to count things like J.D. Robb's "in Death" series, which are basically mysteries set slightly in the future. (I tend to think of SF as what used to be called "hard SF"-- i.e., techno-heavy.)
Good luck! Hope you find something you like.

I'm driving down to Florida for spring break on Sunday. I'm riding with a friend we don't agree on music so what are some good audio books to listen to? We both like science fiction or fantasy books. If there are any other suggestions for something else to listen to I'm open to more ideas.
I really enjoyed the following Sci Fi / Fantasy books on audiobook:
Ender's Game (excellent actors combined with an excellent story)
by Orson Scott Card
Screwtape Letters (pretty deep, thoughtful, philosophical, but very excellent. Better in audio than in reading, in my opinion)
by CS Lewis
Harry Potter Series narrated by Jim Dale (I love Jim Dale's performance)
by JK Rowling
1984 (I liked this better listening than reading, too!)
George Orwell
Any of the Star Wars audio dramas. They do an awesome job of incorporating sound effects and music along with the story.
Best of luck!
I have used HomeSat for a few years for science and have been happy with it, but my kids are getting ready to start high school, and I was wondering how Apologia science would compare. It looks to me like it would take less time. They have a book, a CD with additional video clips and experiments, and even an audio CD of the book for one of my kids that has reading difficulties. Has anyone out there used the Apologia Science?
Yes, My daughter used Apologia for General Science.
It definitely has pros and cons.
The pros: excellent material. My daughter is very strong in science and this not only kept her attention but really boosted her knowledge of science. She switched to ABeka Biology this year and maintains a 97 average in this class. Can't help but think part of it is due to the Apologia background she has.
she used the CD rom based program and we both liked the way it was delivered. She read some, some was read to her (think classroom setting, teacher explaining), there were video clips. After each new idea, it would pause to give some comprehension type questions.
The Cons: the text (including the computer based one) can be a bit dry. The actual text book is very text intensive and may not appeal to visual or hands on learners. My daughter tends to be distracted by more visual things, and does better with text intensive materials. The experiments can be a shot in the dark. The materials are not hard to come by at all, but they don't always work (we found this across the board) The plus side to that is it is very easy to figure out what they were going for, so you are able to learn from it.
The testing materials and answer keys are on a separate disk on the computer edition. We have two computers, so it was quite easy to keep it all separate and make sure there was no (peeking) going on. I also liked that I could go in and see where she was and what she needed to do. The material is also very teacher friendly and it is easy to jump in and explain things to supplement the teaching they provide.

Gil T's Pleasure: "Beyond All Weapons" by L. Ron Hubbard
I have figured it out, right before I start any audio book which is 10 hours or more of listening time, I'm going to fill in with an intermission of one of these L. Run Hubbard audio pulps. Back in the day before a movie the audience would get treated to a cartoon, serial or news reel. Well these audio pulps released by Galaxy Audio are just like those serials, and some of the stories are "cartoony," in that they are fun and short. These larger than life characters and interesting adventures are the perfect fit for a two hour audio enjoyment. One of the main reasons for the audio enjoyment is the great acting. In researching these stories, I found they put the actors in the same room at the...
