hi my name is brian and after a long talk with my mom and going to a few university seminars i've decided that i want to go to an ivy league university in the States. I don't know if i already have a few disadvantages by being a Canadian but what i want to know is if i have the requirements to enter an ivy league school (preferrably Princeton, MIT, Harvard, Columbia or Yale which i don't think is in the ivy league). Anyways I'm in grade 11 right now so i will have to apply next year. I haven't got my report card yet but my last years average (grade 10) mark was 91% which isn't the best. I'm on my school's biking team, i did a 30 hour famine where i don't eat and raise money for world vision, im in the film club, art club, i used to go talk to retired Basilian Fathers every wednesday for 2 months, and i have a total of about 80+ community service hours. I don't have that many awards but i won the Basilian book award which got me 300 dollars and ive also reached top 25% in the Waterloo math contest (i know top 25 sucks). I'm also about to get my NLS which is the national Lifeguard service in Canada and i already have my bronze cross and medallion. I heard that applicants need to have something special other than marks and extracurriculars but i really have nothing special than art. i received a mark of 98% in art last year but i haven't gone out for any art contests or anything so i don't really have any awards to back up my performance. I have some artwork that i've done and a sketchbook but i don't think i will be able to send it in with an application. Anyways that's all ive got and maybe i'll get more done this year in grade 11 and i really think my average is better than 91 this year. It'd be great to get your opinions. THANKSS
ohh ive also taken the PSAT which is the practice SAT but i haven't received my mark yet. It wasn't too difficult but i think ive managed to get in the low 700s for both math and english.
It would also be great if anyone could suggest what i could do to make my chances of being accepted any higher. thanks again
MIT is not in the ivy league, the other 4 are. The ivy league is an east coast football league, so it doesn't include technical colleges, anything not on the northeast coast, or state universities. Thus, it is NOT a comprehensive list of the best schools in the country, just a few of them. Basically, it sounds like you're going for name recognition only here since you didn't really say why you wanted to go - for instance, mentioning what you want to study and whether or not these schools are good for that subject (or even offer it).
The ivies only take about 10% or less of the applicants they get each year, and since everyone applying has great grades and test scores, no one really has a good chance of getting in, and you're right, you don't really stand out in any way. Coming from another country doesn't help either, since they take many fewer foreign applicants than domestic. So go ahead and apply, but I suggest you have a backup plan.

Digital Talking-Book Internet Service from NLS Delivers One ...
If we’re reading this correctly, in less than a year the new digital service from National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (NLS), Library of Congress, had more than one million items downloaded. That’s with a user base of around 15,000 qualified users (vs. 800,000 users for the “traditional” program.) Very Impressive!
