Mp3 Player For Audio Book

I am trying to fit as many audio books as possible on a 2G mp3 player for a road trip...wondering if I can compress the files to 90 kbps and still get decent audio quality.

I've compressed audio books to 56 kbps without too much quality loss. I'd never do music that low, but IMHO, books are just fine as they don't need to be as high quality.

My mom has poor vision, and misses reading. I want to buy her an MP3 player that's small and easy to use. Maybe for a bit of music for her too. But if an Ipod shuffle shuffles, will it be any good for an audio book or will it mix the chapters up? Any suggestions for a player that is suitable would be appreciated! Thanks!

I would get her a cd player instead. Most audiobooks come on CDs now, and the ones online you can download and save to a CD. I would think a portable CD player would be easier and probably cheaper to get in the long run, especially if she has poor vision.. I read alot of audiobooks and find CDs a great way to do it. You can check CD audiobooks out from the library; if you set her up with an MP3 player you will more than likely have to help her with each book you get. She can have more control and freedom with CDs.

I have a creative zen nano plus player, it said it transfered but I can't locate the file to play it. Is there anything specific I need to do for my player to detect the file?

I used Itunes to do it, and it was just like transferring any other cd to my ipod. I put it in the drive, it asked if I wanted to add it to my ipod, and it just did it. I can't imagine it being that different for other players. Do you have the most current software installed?

I am looking to purchase an MP3 player/IPOD. I want one that can hold 1 or 2 audio books together with at least 500 songs. Whats GB size do I require ?

audio books, in general take up a bit more room than an album. although different books are different sizes, as a rule, if your mp3 player is 256mb or bigger (that's MB not GB) then you'll get "a few" on it (2 - 5)

if your mp3 size is measured in GB then you'll get loads on.
hold your mouse over the file containing the audio book and you will be able to see how big it is.

iPod have the audiobook library already created under the podcast menu. It has different options on how to play the file, like play fast, play slow, and also once you turned off and then go back later on it will start from where you stop.

But get whatever is good for you and is reachaeble economically speaking.
