my reading of the lord of the rings
eg brisingr twilight harry potter lotr etc
You can't. This would be illegal, and anyone offering this sort of service would be punished. And since this is the umpteenth time that this question has been asked in the last few days, I would like to add this:
There is NO legal option that you can read/hear anything written in the last 50 or so years. There is something called a copyright, which means that your favourite author does not have to starve because some people want to get their work without paying for it. If you want to read any popular, contemporary book, go to the bookstore and buy it. If you cannot afford this, go to the library. It really isn't that difficult.
LOTR looked great and still does. But my question is;- will it look dated in a few years time? Or will the production still hold into the future.
I suppose this is a pretty random question but i think its relevant cos a lot of films from the early 90s look dated now which were once considered cutting edge. cheers thanks for reading. I love the films and books tho.
To prove my official LOTR geekdom(!) I own the following
1. Antiqued parchement map of Middleearth as seen in the film on Bilbos desk. (£7 bargain from Musiczone leeds)
2. LOTR 7 book boxset (books+appendices) (another bargain from a cheap bookstore in york)
3 The One Ring Replica 24kt gold (ebay)
4. Dragon with Nazgul Rider figurine
5. Minas Tirrith Model (spectacular!)
6. LOTR Chess set (still collecting)
7. A Hobbit currency coin (!) (ebay!!)
8. LOTR Top trumps (special box trilogy version)
9. The Hobbit special version with map, postcards, and audio recording of Tolkien reading the riddle of Gollum
oh yeah to be totally pedantic i have the boxset extended dvd versions of the films and unfinished tales. so there.
I think it will hold as looking great! Any more animated or green/blue screened and it would look just too fake. Other than that I don't see another film in its genre looking better. Look at Narnia, it was too animated looking. I don't think it will be out dated for a while at least!
I am into suspense, but not horror such as Steven King and such. People often make the assumption that I like fantasy like the LOTR series- actually, I find those kinds of books quite boring.
I ripped the audio file for Honeymoon by James Patterson onto my mp3 player and have been listening to it- it really seems like a gripping book so far and I really enjoy it. Can you recommend any books/authors that are similar to this?
Sorry, but these all have some form of fantasy, but they still might interest you. These do have suspence in them. Here are some of my all time favorite books...
-the Chrestomanci Series
-Artemis Fowl Series
-the Blue is for Nightmares Series
-the Mediator Series
-Witch Child and the sequel Sorceress
-Fire Bringer and the sequel The Sight (there is another one coming out this fall)
-I Rode a Horse of Milk White Jade
-Harry Potter Series (ofcourse)
That is all I can think of now, sorry. You can either check out wikipedia, barnes and noble, or the website of the author to find out if you would be interested in the books. Happy book hunting! And these are all teen books.
I actually got the audio version of the book. I've only listened to 15 min. but I'm starting to lose my patience already. Minas Tirith is like an hour and 30 mins long. Good Lord!
I've read the first two, but forgot a lot, maybe thats why it seems boring. But please tell me I'm not alone. I mean I know LOTR is a classic but sometimes Tolkien puts me to sleep, the same thing happened with the beginning of the Fellowship. Feels like torture!
So does Return of the King get a little more exciting or what?
Thanks.
I've read all the Tokien books many times. They are my "comfort food" of reading. They are considered amongst the greatest literature of the 20th century.
The books are like life. There are lulls between the action. The language can be dense in places. Just stick with it and you will be rewarded.

Blu Tuesday: The Lord of the Rings – The Motion Picture Trilogy

While we all patiently await Guillermo del Toro’s big screen adaptation of “The Hobbit” (currently scheduled to be split into two parts and rumored for a 2011 release date), Warner Bros. has decided to whet our appetites by releasing “ The Lord of the Rings ” on Blu-ray. It’s certainly been one of the most requested titles since the format first arrived on the scene, but now that it’s finally here, the release has only been mired in controversy. Although a lot of fans have been aggressively vocal about the studio’s decision to only release the theatrical editions at this time (one look at Amazon’s product page shows an average rating of 1.5 stars), the reasoning behind the boycott is absolutely ridiculous.
