I wouldn't say I'm an avid and die hard fan but I do love the story very much. I own and have seen the movies numerous times and read the trilogy 3 times.
I have heard a few audio books lately and I'm becoming a fan of them.
When I googled "Lord of the Rinks Audio books" I got a little more then expected. This is where I need help.
There are a few versions out there I found these...The 1st two seem to seem to be the most popular. (i think)...

What is the difference between bridged and unabridged?
I think that unabridged means that it is word for word right out of the original text. Am I right or do I have it backwards?
I don't want to spend that kind of money for the second one but I was hoping to get the exact wording from the book.
Am I reading too much into this? Will I be happy with the 40 dollar ones?
Oh, and any recommendations are appreciated.
You are correct that unabridged would refer to the word right out of the original text. One great option for where to get your audio books is Audible.com. You can just download the book you want and listen to it on your Ipod or computer. They have lots of different plans available and you can actually try 2 audiobooks free through http://www.book-club-offers.com/audible- platinum/ .
They have "Dramatized" versions which might be entertaining to listen to as well as teh "Unabridged" versions.
Hope that helps!

I want to buy the Audio books for the Lord of the Rings but first I'd like to listen to a sample to see if I like the narrator's voice. If the sample is free, so much the better!
I'm not sure but try amazon.com because when you look up cds on the website it gives music samples so it might for books.
Check your local library. If they don't have a copy, they may be able to request it through interlibrary loan.

Lord of the Rings Trilogy on Blu-Ray - The Retroist

I read the Lord of the Rings books and grew up watching the Rankin Bass versions of the trilogy on worn out VHS. When I heard that Peter Jackson was doing the trilogy, I got my hopes up. I mean this guy seemed to respect the subject. I had no idea he would make something so wonderful. Is the film a perfect telling the Lord of the Rings? Not exactly, but it is more then any of geeks could have hoped for. I was very lucky to be working with a great group of people when the movies came out. The movies were such a big deal to them, that the company actually closed so that we could all go see the films together. How many workplaces have you worked at that have done that?
