whats the difference between harry potter and the philosophers stone and the sorcerers stone ?

???
it was really bugging me.
apart from the title is there any other words in the book that are different ???

because i am from england and i have the philosophers stone book but the sorcerers stone audio book and i don't see the difference ???

The title was changed for American distribution because most Americans, and especially American children, are unaware of the meaning of the term "Philosopher's Stone" or of the classical and medieval meaning of "Philosopher" as a scientist or sorcerer and not just as a professor of philosophy.

The image that immediately leaps into my mind as an American when you say "Philosopher" is a long hair professor with suede patches on the elbows of his jacket, not a wizard.

Homemade audiobook. I will update regularly. You may have to turn the volume up.

Question about Harry Potter Book 1?

I purchased new Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Audio CD. After listening to the audio book over and over again I realized that a lot of the book was missing. I have all 7 CDs, but CD Six ends with Harry catching the snitch. CD Seven begins with Harry, Ron and Hermione setting in the Common room and everyone in their House angry with them. All of the chapters about Hagrid and Norbert (not sure of spelling) is missing, the trip into the Forest and all of that is missing.

Is this a common mistake on the Audio CDs?

I purchased it from a chain bookstore in the local mall.

If you look at the box and see briged, then that is a disk that skips parts. Unabriged is where it doesnt skip parts and I am assuming that that is what you want.

is there a page i can download harry potter and the sorcerer's stone Audio for the book?

i want to put it it on a cd or to my psp put i only want the story of te book on Audio of the story

That would be a copyright violation. In other words theft.

"In a civil suit, an infringer may be liable for a copyright owner's actual damages plus any profits made from the infringement. Alternatively, the copyright owner may avoid proving actual damage by electing a statutory damage recovery of up to $30,000 or, where the court determines that the infringement occurred willfully, up to $150,000. The actual amount will be based upon what the court in its discretion considers just. (17 U.S.C. 504)

Violation of copyright law is also considered a federal crime when done willfully with an intent to profit. Criminal penalties include up to ten years imprisonment depending on the nature of the violation."

Why is Harry Potter Book 1 called....???

The Sorcerers Stone in the USA and The Philosophers Stone in the UK? Surely it would make more sense to keep the one word? And also why different voices in the audio in USA and UK? Again would'nt it make sense to keep the same voice artist?

ALSO thumbs up who thinks JK Rowling will be knighted? They always seem to pick people who make so much money for doing things like writing multi-selling books, football etc.

Oh and if you have any stars spare too.......

This is from Wikipedia

Both the book and the motion picture were released in the United States with the revised title Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. The book's American editor, Arthur Levine, who was also responsible for editing out words and usages characteristic of British English, felt that Philosopher's Stone conveyed an incorrect idea of the subject matter, and that a title change was necessary. Rowling and Levine had agreed to change words only when they felt that it would otherwise be incomprehensible to American readers. Several alternative titles were discussed, and Rowling chose Sorcerer's Stone in the end.[3] The "translations" in the American edition led to criticism by many readers. The New York Times ran an article titled "Harry Potter, Minus a Certain Flavour" on July 10, 2000, which heavily criticised Scholastic's decision to Americanize the U.S. Harry Potter editions.[4] Many felt that the translations insulted the intelligence of the American public. In their editions of the sequels, Scholastic did not Americanize the text as much and did not change the titles.
