I'm going to take first-year Japanese in University next year and would like to get a head start. If you can recommend a good book or whatever like Rosetta Stone that would be great!
Go to your local library and see if they have Pimsleur, Beginning Japanese. If they don't, then ask how to do an inter-library loan. Get only the CDs, not the cassettes. The Pimsleur method uses no books. You learn by listening and by a lot of repitition. The lessons can be converted to mp3 like music tracks and you can carry it around on an mp3 player or iPod. Listen to it constantly and try to get through all 30 lessons. Then get the Intermediate and then the Advanced.
My public library also has a "digital library" with Rosetta Stone Japanese and I can access it from home. Ask about that also.

I have just finished listening to the Twilight Series and I am looking for another series that can captivate me as much as this series has. Anyone have any recommendations that are as well written as this series? I really appreciate a good plot and great character development. I enjoy being drawn into "their" world while reading a book. Any recommendations would help :)

I'm driving back home from visiting my family for thanksgiving. It's a 7 hour drive unfortunately and I was looking for some great audio books or comedy to keep me awake and entertained.
I like sci-fi, thriller, fantasy and comedy
Most libraries have a small book sale section inside where they sell discarded or donated material for cheap. You could probably find some very good audio books there, as most avid readers (or listeners) donate their material when they are through with it.
ANy sizable thrift store will probably have audio books for sale, too. Have a safe trip!
I like all types of stories as long as the reader does a good job differentiating the characters. Some of my favorites to listen to were Harry Potter, Robert Crias' Elvis Cole books, any of the Ya-Ya books by Rebecca Wells, Garden Spells. Basically an intriguing story with a great narrator. Thanks!
I loved listening to LOTR -- the BBC full cast version from 1981. Pure genius. 17 hours long!
I also really enjoyed listening to Seamus Heaney read his "Beowulf: New Verse Translation." For some reason, I had a hard time concentrating while I was reading it, but listening to it was great.
I'm really into audio books these days. Where is a good place to get some?

Now, let me warn you, I am listening to it for the fourth time, and while the audio book is good, this may be one best used in the book form. I am truly inspired by this book and the idea of a series of rules that guide the successful entrepreneur.
