In what ways can we improve our relationship with the Qur'an ((7 tips inside))?

Are you one of those people who rarely touches the Qur'an? Or do you read daily, but don't find it is having the impact on you that it should? Whatever the case may be, these are some simple tips that can help you connect with the Qur'an.

1. Before you touch it, check your heart. The key to really benefiting from the Qur'an is to check your heart first, before you even touch Allah's book. Ask yourself, honestly, why you are reading it. Is it to just get some information and to let it drift away from you later? Remember that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was described by his wife as a "walking Qur'an": in other words, he didn't just read and recite the Qur'an, he lived it.

2. Do your Wudu (ablution). Doing your Wudu is good physical and mental preparation to remind you you're not reading just another book. You are about to interact with God, so being clean should be a priority when communicating with Him.

3. Read only 5 minutes everyday. Too often, we think we should read Qur'an for at least one whole hour. If you aren't in the habit of reading regularly, this is too much. Start off with just five minutes daily. If you took care of step one, Insha Allah (God willing), you will notice that those five minutes will become ten, then half an hour, then an hour, and maybe even more!

4. Make sure you understand what you've read. Five minutes of reading the Qur'an in Arabic is good, but you need to understand what you're reading. Make sure you have a good translation of the Qur'an in the language you understand best. Always try to read the translation of what you've read that day.

5. Remember, the Qur'an is more interactive than a CD. In an age of "interactive" CD-Roms and computer programs, a number of people think books are passive and boring. But the Qur'an is not like that. Remember that when you read Qur'an,you are interacting with Allah. He is talking to you, so pay attention.

6. Don't just read, listen too. There are now many audio cassettes and CDs of the Qur'an, a number of them with translations as well. This is great to put on your walkman or your car's CD or stereo as you drive to and from work. Use this in addition to your daily Qur'an reading, not as a replacement for it.

7. Make Dua (supplication). Ask Allah to guide you when you read the Qur'an. Your aim is to sincerely, for the love of Allah, interact with Him by reading, understanding and applying His blessed words. Making Dua to Allah for help and guidance will be your best tool for doing this.

One question that is often asked of the Bible is, "How do we know it's actually inspired by God"? There are several ways to know it's inspired by God, and not just merely the personal opinions of the 40+ authors who wrote it over about at 1,500 year period. One way is the hundreds of prophecies in the Old and New Testaments that have already come to pass without a single mistake. Another way is the scientific foreknowledge that appears all throughout the Bible. In this case, what we mean by "scientific foreknowledge" is scientific information that was revealed in the Bible long before mankind discovered or verified it through extra-Biblical means. The verses cover a broad range of scientific disciplines. We are gathering this information from several sources, and will add to this list as we have time to.

Note: There is another interpretation of this verse that suggests its talking about how the Sun appears to rise in the East and sets in the West (from Earth's perspective). It is quite possible that this verse is not referring to the Sun's orbital path at all. Psalms 19:4-6 About 1000 BC It was only recently discovered that the Sun is moving through space at about 600,000 miles per hour, in an orbit that would take an estimated 230,000,000 years to complete.

Life is in our blood Leviticus 17:11
Leviticus 17:14 1450-1410 BC
1450-1410 BC During George Washington's day, the practice of blood-letting to treat various kinds of illnesses was common. In fact, George Washington died from this very treatment. In 1830 AD, Dr. Marshall Hall came out in strong opposition to this practice. However, had any of the doctors who practiced this treatment read these Bible verses, they would have known that it could have fatal consequences..

Circumcisions should be performed on the eighth day after birth Genesis 17:12 1450-1410 BC According to the Old Testament (Genesis 17:12), circumcision of newborn males was to be performed on the eighth day after birth. Why the eighth day? In 1935 Professor H. dam proposed the name "vitamin K" for the factor in foods which helped prevent hemorrhaging in baby chicks. We now know that vitamin K is responsible for the production of prothrombin by the liver. If vitamin K is deficient, there will be a prothrombin deficiency and hemorrhaging may occur, since both vitamin K and prothrombin are necessary for proper blood clotting. Oddly enough, it is only on the 5th through the 7th days of the newborn male's life that vitamin K begins to be produced (the vitamin is normally produced by bacterial action in the intestinal tract). and it is only on day eight that the percentage of prothrombin climbs above 100% of normal! The only day in the entire life of the newborn that the blood clotting element prothrombin is that high is day eight. The best day for surgical procedure like circumcision is therefore day eight. Meteorology

The Jet Stream Ecclesiastes 1:6 935 BC First discovered by airmen during WW II. See more information here. But look here at Intellicast's current graphical representation of the jet stream and you'll see it matches the Bible's description very nicely. Mount Everest, the highest mountain in the world. At its peak it's 29,028 feet. Yet the Jet Stream exists from 32,800 and 164,100 feet. Since airplanes didn't' exist in 935 BC, how was the author of Ecclesiastes able to give such an accurate description of the jet stream? Keep in mind that Ecclesiastes was written AFTER all the upheaval of Noah's flood. It is likely that Mount Everest was not as high in 935 BC as it is today, making it even more unlikely that humans could have used mountains to have discovered the jet stream. Consider the link How did Noah and others get by without oxygen tanks? for more information about this.

Job 40:15-24 1450-1410 BC
950 BC or earlier Modern science is still playing catch-up to the Bible on this issue. The verses in Genesis establish the fact that dinosaurs and man were created on the same day (the 6th day of creation). The verses in Job describe a living creature Job was familiar with. Of all the creatures we know have ever existed, a dinosaur best fits the description of the animal given in Job 40. See our Evidence that Humans and Dinosaurs lived at the same time link for much more information about this.

Time had a beginning New 1 Timothy 1-8-9 63 AD It's difficult to pin down precisely when modern science concluded that time had a beginning. But based on links like this, it appears to be related to the discovery of Second Law of Thermodynamics and recent observations made in the science of cosmology. Of course modern science wrongly attributes it to being connected with the Big Bang, which of course is a fairy tale. Oceanography

Fact Bible verses Date of verse Discovered by science
The oceans have circulating currents or 'paths' Psalms 8:8
Isaiah 43:16 About 1000 BC
746-680 BC Late 1800's. Dr. Matthew Maury is considered one of the major founders of the science of oceanography. He was a also a creationist who believed in the absolute authority and accuracy of the Bible. One day while he was sick in bed, he asked his son to read the Bible to him. One of the verses his son read was Psalms 8:8. That particular verse mentioned "paths" in the seas. Believing that the Bible must be correct about these "paths", he set out to find them. As a result, Dr. Maury was the first to discover (in modern times) that the seas were circulating systems with interaction between wind and water.
There are springs that arise from the ocean floor Job 38:16 950 BC or earlier The earliest secular references to these springs was by the Roman geographer Strabo, who lived from 63 BC to 21 AD. (1)
Mountains and deep valleys exist on the ocean floor Job 38:16

Jonah 2:5-6 950 BC or earlier
840 or 586 BC The Challenger expedition (1873-1876) commenced the first scientific exploration of the ocean floor, during which a canyon 5 1/2 miles deep was discovered in the Pacific. (1)

This is the most thorough explanation of biblical facts I have seen. Good for you! There is also a book called "Science vs. Evolution" also known as the "Evolution Cruncher" which as the name implies, "crunches" this awful theory of evolution that has destroyed the moral values placed by God in our society. It proves that evolution is as farce and gives plenty of evidence of the existence of our Creator.

How should I study Nietzsche?

I have privately studied philosophy during high school, including the early Greeks, renaissance thinkers, some eastern philosophers, contemporary questions, etc. All of these are sporadic and incomplete. But I have never touched on Nietzsche until recently. So far I have found his ideas to be very similar to my own (or vice verse) at this point.

The only thing I dislike about his writing is how heavily he seems to touch on the nonexistence of God and the corruption of religion. I am agnostic but it gets tedious hearing his rants about the faults of Christianity and God. I understand this is one of his main points, but it is tedious to read through it. I would rather get to arguments concerning "The Will to Power" and his thoughts on the emergence or creation of existentialism. I would like to use him as a preface to Sarte and other existential thinkers.

So which of his works are the best to start on? What are some books or study guides on Nietzsche?

I have the audio tapes narrated by Charlton Heston. But I can absolutely not stand the German narrator that plays Nietzsche, his voice is disgusting and arrogant. I don't understand why they chose him to narrate the great philosopher's work for he never reached the age of this German douche bag.

Anyways any advice from those who have studied Nietzsche extensively would be helpful.

I wouldn't call myself an 'extensive' Nietzsche reader. In any case, some good side literature would be G. Vattimo's Nietzsche - an Introduction. Vattimo is pretty knowledgeable and my teacher who's a Nietzsche expert recommended it.

Nietzsche himself recommended a new reader of his literature to start with The Gay Science, where many of his ideas are presented together in an easy to access format.

There's Deleuze's book 'Nietzsche', but although it is a very informed and thorough investigation of his work, the book is quite complicated and I wouldn't recommend it to anybody who hasn't studied some Nietzsche previously.

Finally, about Nietzsches issues with Christianity, there are several reasons to this, one being his own background coming from a deeply Christian household. The other is the need Nietzsche perceived for someone to actually state what no one yet had dared to do: understand that Enlightenment and later Kant killed God, and then proceed on to wrestle the aporetic Nihilism and find a new way for thinking to go past this. In this perspective, Nietzsche is just trying to tell the audience of his own time to open their eyes to what they already know.

►Ramadan: Do you know scholars say arrivals is fake and teaches things that are against islam?

Arrivals say Dajaal and illumnati is already on the plate controlling government. Which is against what the prophet said, that the Dajaal will appear at the end. The arrivals is made by shia's, they have different hadith than us. Muslims who beleive what the arrivals say are not following islam.

Scholars:

"The Arrivals" series should not be watched brother. A general warning about the series must be issued. It is enough that the series was made by the shia and openly calls to shia aqeedah particularly regarding what would happen in the last days! It is definately shia dawah and propoganda. After that, there are MANY other mistakes in aqeedah, half truths, and speculation that can not be affirmed or proven. Let the community learn the Qur'an and Sunnah with the understanding of the Sahaabah and not waste their time on such nonsense. Any information about masonry etc. should be taken from orthodox scholars of Islam and approved books on firaq wal adyaan. one has to be careful when watching The Arrivals, as not everything in it is based on the Qur'an and authentic Sunnah, and there are several errors mentioned. For example, they mention that a year in God’s measure is like a 1000, while we all know that it’s a day by God’s measure that equals a 1000 years.

Furthermore, the creators of The Arrivals are Shi'a. For example, they claim there is no where in the Qur'an that says that one should be Sunni. They talk about the family of the Prophet (SAW) but miss out Aisha (RA), and the other wives of the Prophet (SAW), and other prominent members of his family such as his dear cousin Abdullah bin Abbas (RA), who was raised in his household. Also, they mention that Hassan (RA) was poisoned by Mu'awiya (RA), a common Shi'i lie.

Unauthentic “Research”
Certain “facts” are in fact plain conjecture. Other facts which can easily be researched are simply copied and pasted without verification. For example, quotations are simply extracted from the audio, From the Shadows, including the most glaring error claiming that the Freemasons realised their error in France when they lost control of Napoleon. They therefore made certain that when they later inspired the American Revolution that they installed a Freemason, George Washington.

The producers make much of their “research” yet as Americans, they should know a basic fact that the Treaty of Paris terminating the Independence War was signed in 1783, which is 16 years before Napoleon came to power in 1799. Did the Masons then invent a time travel machine to install George Washington back in 1775? Incidentally Washington died in 1799, the year Bonaparte came to power and broke away from Masonic control. How could the French Revolution possibly have been before the American Revolution?

If these widely available facts are mysteries to these great researchers, why should we trust them on their novel, obscure claims?

Brazen distortion of Qurān and Ḥadīth
Our interpretation of Qurān and Ḥadīth is what Allāh and His Rasūl (pbuh) taught us, via the chain of the Ṣaḥābah (R.A), Mufassirūn and Muḥaddithūn. Aḥādīth warning against personal interpretations are well known.

The producers make the following claims:
* Ad-Dajjāl has already emerged.
* The first day represents his rule in England, starting in 900 of the Christian era.
The second day represents his rule in America, starting in 1917.* The English monarchy started in 900.
* The third day represents his rule in Palestine, starting in 2001.

The unbiased will realise:
* England and “between Iraq and Syria” cannot be the same.
* The continuous monarchy of England is dated from the reign of Egbert in 829. Is Arrivals deliberately lying to get their date of 900?
* The question of the Ṣalāh, clearly shows that the Ṣaḥābah (RA) understood the prophecy to mean that a normal 24 hour day will be extended to a year.
* This is in line with the clear, uncomplicated Dīn which Rasūlullāh (pbuh) brought us.
* The esoteric UK-US theory seems more in line with Masonic thinking.

Arrivals is correct that there is infiltration. They are just slyer than many expect.

  • “God is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything” by Christopher ...

.  Hitchens now takes on a subject of growing discussion and debate in a time when the number of atheists in the United States, as well as the rest of the world, is apparently growing either because they are abandoning all religion or they are simply “coming out” and admitting to their atheist beliefs.  A short time ago “atheist” was a hated label for one to admit to having, but now with a slew of atheist and anti-religious books, including Richard Dawkins’ Top 100 Most Influential People list this year) and becoming a commonplace conversation in many households across the country.

What I find quite uncanny, having read most of the books mentioned above, is how each author avoids covering the same examples and details when discussing the same subject matter.  The authors find new and different ways of exposing the futility of religion and pushing forth their atheist beliefs.  Hitchens joins the ranks here in presenting a new side to a growing subject matter.  What makes different is that while many of the other books calling for the end of religion gloss over the different faiths of the world, they ultimately focus on Christianity, being the largest and most visible faith in this country; Hitchens doesn’t hold back and has chapters not just on Christianity and its various denominations, but also extensively attacks the Muslim religion and its denominations, Buddhism, Mormonism, as well as small religious sects around the world such as Shintoism and Jainism.
