Recommendations Needed: Learn/Understand Computers, Beg, Int, Adv.?

I am in my 50’s and I think like many of us have a good, “Bits and Pieces” understanding; however I would like to build a good foundation, and from that move to the next level, and them the final level would be, a good solid working/understanding knowledge of Computers and the Internet. Not knowing everything but having the foundation to learn new technology as it becomes available.

What I would like to do is look at the learning process in three parts, 1- Computer basics, hardware/ how the computer works/basic internet/networking, 2- upgrading and add-ons, understanding/knowing what you may want and why. 3-Advanced understanding and trouble-shooting, internet, torrents, packets, up-stream/down stream speed, understanding and use of different audio/video etc…
What books, etc, do you recommendation for: 1- Basic, 2 – Intermediate, and 3 – Advanced

These are just my general thoughts, If you know a good systematic way to approach the learnin please suggest that also.

T.Y.

Glad to hear you're not afraid to learn.

The "...for Dummies" books are preferred by some and disliked by others.

A lot of times, hands-on learning is best for first starting out then reading books as you go along. Once you gain some hands-on knowledge, the reading material makes more sense.

I'm sorry I don't have any specific books to suggest other that what I mentioned above, perhaps someone else can give you that answer.

My alternate suggestions are:

1) Check out free or low-cost classes at your local community library; some even have classes for older adults only.

2) Your local community college may have continuing education classes, generally low cost, for those new to computers or MS Office software.

Considering you got on the internet to enter your answer, you are at least somewhat familiar with using a PC and comfortable with some level of internet use.

Best of luck.

John McCain was born in 1936. What do you think of his world back then?

1936 The depression lingered on with unemployment continuing to fall to 16.9%, and Hitlers Germany continued to show the world it was not scared of anyone but the 1936 Olympics caused Hitler humiliation when his Aryan Supermen were dominated by the great Jesse Owens. Germany's Hitler, Italy's Mussolini and Japan formed an alliance which would show it's real reason for creation in World War 11. Many of Americas unemployed travelled to California hoping to get work but the the local police chief posted guards at main entrance points blocking the " undesirables" this was illegal and later stopped. The Boulder Dam was completed later renamed the Hoover Dam.

  • The Sacrificial Son – Ishmael or Isaac (Ismail or Ishaq)? - Book ...

    A Bonus

Let me start with a bonus before we get into the actual debate of this issue. The Bible states both the sons (Ishmael and Isaac) as sons. Please note:-

And his sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah, in the field of Ephron the son of Zohar the Hittite, which is before Mamre; 10 The field which Abraham purchased of the sons of Heth: there was Abraham buried, and Sarah his wife. (Genesis 25:9-10)

Introduction In the early traditions there seems to be a difference of opinion among some Muslims as to which son of Abraham was supposed to be sacrificed. There were some who held the opinion that it was Isaac who was to be sacrificed by Abraham. This view of theirs coincided with the one presented in the Bible. Certain Christian missionaries, when they found out about this difference of opinion, have tried to play this up to prove that it was indeed Isaac who was sacrificed even according to Islam and that the sacrifice of Ishmael is just a tale created by the Muslims later on. They also conclude that because the sacrificial son is not mentioned by name in the Quran and that the place of sacrifice is not mentioned by name hence the Bible is superior.
