I'm reading a fiction book that is a little hard to understand because it isn't just dialogue, it is the thought process. Would listening to the book on CD help, while reading the book? Is it easy to find the corresponding chapter you are on when listening to the CD? Thanks.
I think it might be but how easy the chapter is to find, depends on how the CD is split up and if it is abridged.
When you do both you know how to pronounce words like rendezvous

I travel a lot and plan to start to listen to audio-books. I love science fiction films but never really explored the written genre.
Now that I have a chance to delve into sci-fi novels I find that I cannot find a decent list of the best sci-fi novels available on audio-book.
Can you help?
It depends on what type of science fiction you like, in part. I can tell you that Kim Stanley Robinson's Mars books are on audio (Red Mars, Green Mars, Blue Mars) as are Orson Scott Card's Ender books and Connie Willis' wonderful Doomsday Book. . . whether available at this second in time, I don't know; they were at my library.
Recorded Books has a list of what they have available now:
http://www.recordedbooks.com/index.cfm?f useaction=rb.show_genre&gen_id=321
BTW, Recorded Books does have Joe Haldeman's Forever War and I saw a Connie Willis listed as available now.
Audio books are a little harder to list like this because they become unavailable in ways print books don't. For example, I listened to Willis' book on tape. I don't know if it's still available as an audio download or on cd. Contracts with authors sometimes specified the exact format the publisher could use, and when formats changed, the publisher may not have had the rights to the book as a cd, for example.
Another problem is that SF as a genre isn't as widely popular as, say, mysteries or inspirational fiction. (No flames, please; I speak not judgmentally but as one who has looked at offerings from Recorded Books, Books on Tape, BBC audio, etc. and found fewer titles in that genre; also if you check out their standing order plans, you'll see they offer mystery, inspirational, non-fiction, Christian, teen, children's, African American, Southern, etc. but not SF-- or at least not the last time I checked.) I'm not putting down SF as a genre. The people who love it are devoted but it doesn't seem to cross over as easily to mainstream as, say, mysteries.
Plus the line between SF and Fantasy is a bit blurry sometimes. . . more than a bit. Right now fantasy is a bigger seller so you'll see more Fantasy listed as science fiction-- Piers Anthony I think of as more fantasy, for example, and Robert Jordan. Anyway, there aren't as many SF books on audio as some other genres-- unless you want to count things like J.D. Robb's "in Death" series, which are basically mysteries set slightly in the future. (I tend to think of SF as what used to be called "hard SF"-- i.e., techno-heavy.)
Good luck! Hope you find something you like.
I'm trying to find a source for unnabridged audio books on CD for a friend who is losing their sight. Our local library has a poor selection that we've already gone through.
Where can I find popular contemporary fiction in audio book format that doesn't cost the earth?
I'm in the UK, but don't mind buying online.
audible.com is a good sight. There are many options and each choice is labeled as abridged or unabridged (many have both choices. You can also by audio books on amazon.com.
I have been looking for a audio book club that I can either receive c.d.s through the mail, or download them. I am mostly interested in "self help", especially books on A.D.H.D. in adults. I ran a google search but most of the ones I tried didn't have many titles at all, if any. I can't pay a fortune, but since I am unable to sit and read, this would be perfect for me. There are tons with fiction, but I am not into that at all. I only like non-fiction. Most of them I have seen are around $15 a month, for 1 cd or download, which would be ok if they had what I am looking for. I tried Jiggerbug a long time ago, and they had all kinds of titles back then, but not too many now. I need info if you know of anything like this your info would be greately appreciated. Thanks, JANA
TRY AUDIBLE.COM
ACTUALLY THEY AREN'T WORTH ANYTHING. GO DO SOME GOOGLING AND PLUS YOU SAVE YOURSELF SOME TIME/MONEY BECAUSE SELF-HELP BOOKS AUDIOS JUST DON'T DO A THING ALONE.
BEST PLACE IS TO USE SEARCH ENGINE FOR ARTICLES INSTEAD OF AUDIO OR EBOOKS
I'm talking about self improvement/motivational courses (not fiction type audio books). Obviously, it's faster to listen to audio tapes/CDs rather than read.
If youread it 90% more of the information will be in your mind than if you listen to it.

Why Read Christian Fiction Books?
Many people today have a certain prejudice against Christian fiction books . People think that they will be overwhelmed with rebukes and blatant Christian teaching that sometimes they would rather not pick these kinds of books up.
There is no doubt that there are plenty of fiction books enthusiasts out there, but most shy away from those with labeled as âChristian themedâ especially if they hold a different religious belief.
What they donât realize is that they are missing out on so many great Christian fiction books by doing so.
Being termed as Christian fiction often doesnât mean that all of the themes will outwardly or obviously displaying Christian teachings.
